Venison.....Price per pound

That's what I figured. Wolfman must have been after her. Like I said no offensive intended just wanting to hear how it happened a little better.

I was following a lady thru Indiana about 3 months ago in the semi and I saw 2 does meandering thru the ditch towards the road. It was just after sunset and getting dark. The minivan was about 100 feet in front of me and apparently she didn't see them in the ditch until one of em steps right out into the side of here van. She jerked the wheel and about rolled the thing. The deers head broke the side window on the van. I got stopped and asked if she was ok and noticed the second deer, I assume last years fawn, just standing there on the side of the road. Everybody was fine, momma deer was killed on impact. Never seen a deer walk into the side of a vehicle before. Run yep but not walk.

Glad your ok and like I said just didn't know if it was suicide by vehicle or the dreaded deer freeze. In OTR school they tell us to aim for em cause you have a better chance of them not being there than if you dodge, plus semis aren't exactly agile....

Glad you guys are safe!

WARNING: The following post is for hunters only... do not allow your spouse to read under any circumstances!!!

Have you ever added up how much hunting actually costs? When you add up your guns, ammo, gear, clothing, and optics it is a bit eye opening. Not to mention gas, corn for the feeders, planting food plots and building and maintaining blinds. Throw in the booze and deer hunting probably costs me close to a billion dollars a pound or so (give or take). But oh man is it worth it!!! :D

1st Garth, glad everyone is OK Bro!!!

Now as to what Kevin said, Brother no matter what we do it want be right. Only way out of this is if the wife hunts with you and then you got a real KEEPER.
But imagine back in the stone age it might have gone like this. Do you know how long you spent making that stupid spear haft and napping that flint????? You could have made me a cooking spoon!!!! :p

Its a bit hypocritical as someone called them what bunny huggers? Hunting is conservation and better for an animal who lived free his whole life vs a chicken or pig that was locked into a confined area its whole life and genetically engineered then butchered in an industrial meat plant. The bunny huggers don't realize or care to look at the videos and evidence of the meat industry vs the clean kill of a hunt.

Several years ago I hit a mule deer doe while going about 65 in my brand new Nissan Maxima. It impacted the front bumper, slid over the hood, somehow bounced over the main cab, but then landed on the trunk. As the car came to a stop I looked over my shoulder to see the deer, with its guts hanging out it's rear end, jumping over a barbwire fence. That hunk of wouldabeen venison cost the insurance company $6500.

But yea, hunting is expensive. Back when I could barely afford a pot to piss in I used to hunt every fall in an attempt to fill my freezer. But after calculating the costs over a couple of years I told the wife we had to go back to hamburger because we couldn't afford to hunt.

never hit one but they always made the trip to and from school interesting. after the first few experiences with them i got a bunch of these from a dollar store. seemed like the were always headed away from me after that.

hunting and fishing are just those type of things where you will eventually see the savings if you put in enough time. it's only right that you try to get your money back as soon as possible. ;)

and on that note i think i'm going fishing.... :)

It's truely amazing how graceful and gentle deer are---then the other side is that their tough as nails.
Absolutely blows me away how they run thru strip mine hills that have rocks/logs/branches/holes & uneven ground & they never miss a beat? At night too?
Also glad your ok Garth.

Right on, bro. Fortunately for me, I've managed to get the wife and daughter addicted to the hunt. Stone cold killers those women. They are even more bloody than me! I love that. :D

Amazing series of events Garth, winning guns, wasting deers. Your tale just keeps getting better and better.

Glad that you and yours are safe and sound.....

I dig the Hummer too bro! What colour is she?

Lawrie.

Glad your ok and same with everyone else that is the important thing.

On a not so serious note they should move the deer crossing, it's dangerous for them to cross roads in such high traffic areas. (It just seems fitting, sorry but I hope you get a little laugh out of this. Laughter is the best medicine after all.)

Yeah here you can keep the deer if you want it. Otherwise the local sheriff has a list of people who have requested to be called if there is a deer available. I have seen a few times where the call goes out across the police radio that a deer has been hit and 20 people show up wanting the deer. Actually pretty funny when everyone is racing to get there and then the guy that hit it decides last minute that he is gonna keep it.

Garth

Around here they call one at a time until they get someone who wants it. Glad you are okay.

You guys must just be more organized. Or maybe the local deputies just enjoy watching the crazy mad dash to see who gets there first.

Garth

Atleast it was her car and not my Hummer. I would have been really upset if I wrecked that. Then again the Hummer may have just went right over it with no problems.

Garth

I think you would have been better off in the Hummer...Glad everyone is ok.

Garth

I am pretty sure your Hummer wouldn't have any issues :D

I'm pretty sure the brush guard on the Hummer would have taken care of the deer with no problem or damage to the vehicle at all.
