Ok guys- I have two identical venturi burners (3/4" kit from high temp tools). I have connected them to the tank via pressure reguator to a tee. From the tee individual lines to each burner. One burner runs great the other is acting up, runs then sputters then runs. The sputters are fairly quick but still seems like something is wrong. I have tried various reguator pressures as well as adjusting back pressure with individual valves on each burner. When I connect to just the good burner it still runs great. When I connect to just the "bad" burner it still sputters. What's up with that?

Could be the way you put together the second burner. Even the slightest change can make it act up, such as the mig tip not being centered, or the pipe nipple being further in or out of the main pipe. I'd say try making very small adjustments to it, and have it be the only one the tank is hooked up to until you get it to run properly.

Try changing out the mig tip first. Venturi burners are extremely finicky about air fuel mix and the flow of the gas down the center of the tube. Hooking up a water hose to the burner will show you if there is an aiming issue with the mig tip as well. The mig tips are very easy to bend or foul the end.

The most likely thing is debris in the Mig tip of the sputtering one. PTFE tape is the usual suspect.

Otherwise,as said above, tip damage and alignment are the things to look at.

If you change the mig tips, it's often a good idea to change both. The same with any alignment checks, etc. This eliminates the possibility that the one that works is only working because there is something different about it.

I just have to mention that only certain designs of venturi burners are finicky. Most sidearm burners fall into that finicky category. Older "T" based burners, such as my Atlas or Ron Reil's design, are much more forgiving. However, they don't have the adjustability that a sidearm burner has.

After checking mig tip alignment I did tap one of the pipe nipples that the tip screws into a little cockeyed, but that is the burner that is running great. The other burner looks well ceneterd and is sputtering. I havn't checked for crap in the tip but both burners seem to flow about the same when I just turn on gas.
