Hello everyone! I hope Bladeforums will hold up with all the traffic headed to check out Nathan's new 8" Shiv model! Wow what a cool knife.

This week I have another Verde Ranch Hunter availalbe in CPM 10V, which is probably my favorite alloy for a knife like this. Heat treatment is done in house with "cryo" and triple tempers for a hardness of 65 HRC. I love the heat treat process and take great pride on doing things correctly, studying up on the latest techniques. I always use the ▲ heat treatment going directly to cryo after plate/forced air quench, then temper, cryo, temper, cryo, temper. I'm not so sure the cryo between tempers does much, but there is some theory behind it. The handle is black canvas micarta, hand rubbed to 800 grit, then metal polish and finished with Danish oil. Stainless steel pins. Balance point is between the first and second pin, which gives a bit more control of the blade. The stock is only 0.098" thin, and the blade was given a full flat grind to "zero", backed off just a smidge, and then sharpened. I had a new toy to play with while sharpening.....1 micron diamond lapping film! I started with 120 SiC stone, then used Atoma diamond plates 400, 600,1200, Shapton glass 3000, DMT 3 micron plate, then stropped on the 1 micron diamond lapping film. I'm finding blood spots all over the counter, all over the knife, all over me! I always test the edge with my fingertips, and every once in a while an edge will reach out and bite me! Just remember boys and girls, I keep the edge geometry thin on hunting knives! They aren't made for cutting through bone, but to give a exceptionally pleasureable cutting experience (EPCEs) in the field, or in the kitchen! And with 65HRC 10V, there will be a lot of EPCEs before even thinking about resharpening!

OAL: 8 7/8"
Blade: 4 1/8"
Handle: 4 3/4" black canvas micarta
Steel: CPM 10V 65HRC with "cryo"
Thickness: 0.098"
Edge: 13° per side, 1 micron
Price: SOLD (includes kydex sheath)

Paypall preferred (samuraistuart@yahoo.com). All knives come with free shipping in the USA as well as a lifetime unconditional warranty. Something goes wrong, the knife gets repaired or replaced. I ask that the buyer be aware that most all of my knives are cutting tools and are made only for their intended use. I like to make thin, hard knives that excel at cutting and not necessarily able to take abuse. If you have any questions, feel free to DM me here or contact me by email (samuraistuart@yahoo.com). Thanks for taking a look, and follow me on Instagram at stuartalandavenport.
