Verdict: Better chopper / backpack knife?

Why no love for the SARSquatch? Big enough to handle chores like a hasty shelter, and light enough to not be nuisance

Great info so far, and totally agree with Scott. I'm not worried at all about beating the hell out of the BWM, but is there really no issue with batoning / chopping with a SAR 6?

I haven't put one to use yet, but I don't see why there would be. INFI is INFI.:thumbup:

I've used my SAR 6 alot in the woods, for me its a perfect all around blade, off course its not going to chop as well as a Basic 11 or a BWM but it does chop well and its handle is comfy, batons well cleans fish and makes kindling, what else does a guy need, and it doesn't weigh a ton.

Someone said above that you can throw an NMSFNO?
Is it safe to throw your Busse/kin, given the high RC on the blade?
I may want the KZII even more if I can throw it :thumbup:;)

I am curious if any of you have used a SAR 6 as a chopper/back pack knife myself. Any thoughts on the SAR 6?

Yes a few of us have. Here is a comparison I did to the DSF.

BWM = .187" thick
SAR 6 = .220" thick

Hey, how is it that a thicker blade of shorter length made from the same steel warrants such doubt?

No issues with the SAR 6 at all. It has done everything I asked of it perfectly and begged for more.

I use and carry my SAR 6 a lot more than my BWM. It's a great knife, but the handle isn't for everyone as it is very large yet thinner than a magnum handled blade of a different design such as the SFNO.

That would depend on what is in it's path.
I wouldn't worry too much about the knife as throwing it won't break it. However I found that throwing mine might scratch, dent, dull, or mar the blade or handle. I hear throwing INFI is a pastime event at Blade as well. :D

AZ (or anyone for that matter),

Would you say the BWM isn't in the same league as the NMSFNO as well for legitimate chopping / batoning?

From your initial post list, with the special note of chopping/batoning, the BWM is going to easily win against that list of candidates. More length/leverage. However, the NMSFNO is no slouch.

Agreed, and the BWM is plenty tough and a great chopper at .187 all day long. Same thickness as the AK47 and many other blades all of which hold up great. I wouldn't be worried about strength at all until you get to .15 or less. A CF version of the BWM has the added benefit of coming factory stripped and convexed for even greater performance.
