Verify oven temps?

My Evenheat oven is like Clint's. It has a thermocouple dead center in the top. The probe I used to verify temps is a 10" long thermocouple which I laid on the floor of the oven but it ran nearly from the door to the back wall of the oven.

a 15*F difference between center top and back wall floor is to be expected. for doing basic high carbon steels, set your controller for 1485*F and go for it.

Ok. I'm trying to chase down the reason I'm getting low hardness results. Maybe I'll start another thread to discuss that.

Ok, if that's the case then now I would start doing coupons like Willy suggested. Start with 3, -10F, Nominal, +10F, which has highest hardness? All the same? Go from there.
