Verify safe foreign sale?

Got a buyer in Canada, we have been going back and forth on shipping/insurance etc...and he says he has a buddy in Ohio who can help, I can ship it to him. I ask if he is paypal verfied and he doesn't know what that means. The PP comes through and the name sounds like a female- Wilehemina (?). PP says I'm partially protected on this deal...there is no canadian address listed on PP for him- he put in his friends info...he's had a membership here since 2010, but only like 8 posts..

I just want to be safe on this. Suggestions?

don't use PP for this one - it sounds fishy.
Have the "friend" in Ohio send you a postal money order, which you can cash at the post office rather than going through your bank, then ship to the friend in Ohio and let them ship it to Canada.

Good advice, especially if you don't have any previous experience with the buyers. Once you receive payment, I would also send it with signature confirmation.
 
Thanks guys. I'm just going to scratch the whole deal. I haven't had one problem on BF, and want to keep it that way...
 
rpn, I was going to suggest exactly that. There are ways to protect yourself from fraudsters, but as I always say, the first law of self defense is: Don't go there.

We have so many people with established reputations, why take a chance when you get more than one signal that it might not turn out well?
 
That would have been my second piece of advice -- if the deal doesn't feel right, don't make it.
 
Let me just say that I am the member in Canada who wanted to buy the knife...
The reason the name on the PP is a woman's is because it is my wifes account.
I thought it would be easier shipping it to my buddy in Ohio, because the seller had not shipped to Canada before, and we weren't really sure how it worked.
I asked the seller if he would be comfortable sending it to my friend in Ohio, he stated that was fine with him.
I had actually sent the $ via PP and had it returned to me today, It was and is all legit, but as I stated to the seller, I completely understand him just wanting to be safe. No hard feelings.
I am just posting this to "clear my name" i guess...
 
So a guy pays with his wife's PP account (he DID pay) then asks you to send it to Ohio to avoid any complication/confusion in shipping.

1) you got your money
2) you have an address to send it

not sure I see where the scam would be, if there was any...
 
I'm going to close this, but something that would have helped me if there was info in the bio and being heads up on different PP acct. A long standing member like LMT vouching for someone is gold too.
