Versatility of the NMSFNO

The NMSFNO is just one of those extremely versatile, practical, camp survival knives that is just so sturdy and reliable that you don't ever have to worry about it.
Whatever you can dish out in the way heavy tasks/chores it can take.
You are wise to team it with a multi-tool for those times when a small, fine blade is needed.

I am always torn between the NMSFNO and the TGLB for camping/hiking etc. The TGLB is lighter in weight and is an admirable knife in so many ways but, the flip side of the coin is that the NMSFNO and it's extra weight and heft is sort of comforting.
My last time out in the PA woods with 3 other good folks...everybody was always wanting to borrow my knife.

You definitely can't go wrong with the TGLB -- I wanted a heftier 8 inch blade that could do essentially everything without being obnoxiously heavy.

The NMSFNO is hands down my favorite big blade. I may have bought 3 over the years! :D

I have a HOGFSH and find the Fusion handle to be a bit long for a comfortable fit. Am looking at getting a NMSFNO and wonder how the handle length compares to the Fusion's? Thanks in advance for your replies...Cheers.

The SF handle doesn't have as much belly in the fingers, but i think it's actually longer. If you want a smaller handle, the SHe might be perfect.

I can get some good fusion vs ergo pics tonight but I don't have any SFs

I remember doing a comparison between these blades when the BWM first came out.

I hadn't stripped the BWM so it must have been when it had just arrived.

The custom FSH was a really expensive knife which I had put a really good edge on. The NMSFNO had been stripped and fully convexed - it was razor sharp.

The FSH was no slouch on the sharp front though ...

You could choke up on it no problem and the wide spine made for a good comfortable rest to control the edge with your thumb.

They were very close these two on performance. Great on bushcraft use and you could prep a fire which could be lighted with a fire steel and process enough wood to keep it going all night no problem.

My thoughts were they were both two great knives with each able to handle anything you could throw at them.

Weight was or is the only way I could draw a line through which to keep and which to move on. That and the initial cost. The FSH Custom was expensive and much admired. In the end I decided to sell the FSH because I could bring in more money from that.

I still have the NMSFNO. It does have a special "balance" and in the hand feel to it.

All told I found that the longer blades (if the over all weight of the knife was the same) proved more effective in performance. You get more chopping power with the longer blades for the same weight - but the 8 inch knives still can do it all.

Nice to see the NMSFNO still has its fans.

I'm not sure the SF handles are longer than the Fusion handles. I've read otherwise on these forums. Regardless, the FSH variants are amazing knives. I just can't get my hands off my NMSFNO -- it just feels perfect for me. The ASHBM ain't too shabby either ;)

Thanks for the info, folks. Have been thinking of trying one of the ergos. Have a great Thanksgiving!...Cheers.

NMSFNO is a great knife. It's kind of a sleeper in that Busse introduced it after an extended SFNO Death Chat (if I recall correctly). When I first saw pictures, my reaction was, "this is different, not an SFNO -- too long." But after ordering one, I have to say there's something about the balance in hand and the length to weight ratio that really makes the NMSFNO a winner. It may not look quite as nice an SFNO or FSH but it very useful, versatile, and has perfect balance in hand.
