The thin pointy ends of the heel and horn act as tuning forks.
Adding mass to those ends dampens the movement.
somebody did videos of it ringing with and without magnets on the heel and horn, huge difference

reevestx - I had Don Hanson send me some pics of how his forge and burner were set up and I went off that. I had not built one like this and Don has been running his for 14 years. I have seen several similar looking around at forges since and while I was building mine. The 1/16" hole in the cross pipe dumps the propane upward. I have seen on Indian George's tutorial that he pipes the propane in at the elbow. Like Don said to me it is not critical how the gas gets into the tube. Do a search for blown forge burners on Google and you will several variations. I am not real sure of you saying the gas coming in the pipe with the air?
