Vertical/Horizontal Grinder at Blade

There was a table setup at Blade where they had a 2x72 grinder on some sort of hinge that would allow it to grind vertically and horizontally. Unfortunately, I was so mesmerized by all the knives that I neglected to even notice the company name. Did anyone see who was selling them? I'd like to find out a little more about that grinder.

Going through the exhibitor list on the blade show website proved totally useless.

It was the K&G table I think.

Regardless, the maker of that grinder is Travis Wuertz.

I just met Travis at the show this year, heck of a nice guy with a GREAT grinder.

This is without a doubt the most versatile machine out there.

This is the grinder we will be hearing a lot about over the next few years.

That looks like one nice set up right there. Do you know pricing?

Just about any of our grinders can be made to be Vertical or Horizontal.
A Bader, KMG, Hardcore, etc.. We're an ingenious lot, knifemakers.

Travis' system is so slick because of the myriad of things it does well...

It's kind of an Uber KMG with a MAP arm, that tracks way better, is easier to change belts on, and runs quieter.

It was pricey, I want to say $3200, but I'm not 100%.

I just met the guy, and I was a little toasted when we were talking $$

That is really a nice looking grinder! It looks as though he took inspiration from a lot of different grinders, added his touches and created a very versatile machine.
Very well thought out and executed!
It appears that he has ground more than a few knives the way he whips the blade out in the demo.
I wish him good luck in his venture.

That's one of the nicest grinder setups I've seen. Very well done, and some excellent ideas. I can see that quick change tool rest easily being fab'd for just about any tooling arm design grinder....

Travis told me Tuesday that he was gearing up to have 20 or so units cut by waterjet in the very near future and had sold a few at Blade. They are very nice. Lots of adjustments which could be a good thing...or a bad thing if they tend to come out of adjustment. The tracking is quite amazing. The ease of add ons including a surface grinder is planned for the near future also. The guy is thinking....I think.:D

Awesome looking grinder!!!

I've got one being delivered to me this week. I can't wait. If you want to see one in operation it'll be set up at my hammer in. Travis will be here to talk about them as well. When you start looking at the price you have to view it as two grinders in one. $2500-$2800 for a belt grinder and $1500 for a horizontal or $3200 for all in one and space saving. I can't wait to get it.
