Vertical Pipe Forge or Horizontal?

I was wondering what the advantaged of a vertical pipe forge has over a horizontal one?

In a vertical pipe forge, the heat comes from the bottom and has less of a hot spot. Also if you do much forge welding with flux, the flux just drips down to the bottom and can be absorbed into kitty litter that can be removed every so often.

The big advantage of the horizontal forge is that you can lay your work piece on the floor and not have to have a handle for each piece.

This pretty much sums it up. Which is better depends on what you intend to use it for. I'm building a horizontal first for general forging, and a vertical later for welding. I like venturi/naturally aspirated burners personally, but there's nothing wrong with forced air.

Have both, need both, but I use the vertical one the most.
