Looking for ideas on how to flip my grinder from vertical to horizontal, and back again.

Any ideas? Can someone post pics on their setup?

Thanks!

At the time the KMG grinder I have no one was making a flip base for it so I made one of wood:

There is a guy now making a metal flip base but it's expensive. This cost me less than $100 to make

My new Esteem grinder has a really good flip base that is much easier to flip:

I really don't know how or why someone hasn't made a KMG flip-to-horizontal base for retail sale yet. I'm sure they'd sell like hotcakes. I'd sure buy one if reasonably priced. I don't see Beaumont doing one as they have a horizontal grinder for sale...

The Plywood is 3/4 inch laminated birch and the hinges are door hinges. The stop which holds the grinder level is a piece of Redwood 4x4 with a dowel pin in the base to keep it in the right place. The stand is a Harbor Freight Universal tool stand with some steel cross braces bolted on. I have been using it for over a year and it works great. Larry

It's a barber's chair base. Mine doesn't rotate and I'm not sure what prevents that. The hydraulics slow me to lower the grinder for when I'd rather work sitting down, or kick it up for when I'm standing. I'm real pleased with it.

Mike,
that grinder is as awesome as the first time I saw pics of it. How's it working out for ya? Ever get the surface grinder attachment on?

Not exactly what you were asking for but I built the rotate feature into the grinder I just built for myself.

However you design your base, I _strongly_ recommend that you put a _positive stop_ in the horizontal and vertical position. In other words, there should _not_ just be tightened knobs keeping your grinder from tipping over while you're grinding (and eating your face when it does). In addition to any tightened knobs (which can vibrate loose), you should have a pin or bolt or something to keep it from tipping to the other position, and this pin/bolt/whatever can be removed when you want to change positions (in addition to loosening any knobs). An extra second to switch positions could save your fingers/face.
