Very cool little Paderno neck-knife ...

Every now and then our local Allied Hardware here in the Crowsnest Pass has a Paderno cookware promotion/sale, and there are occasionally some stellar deals on small "starter" items. I was there yesterday, and a small brightly-coloured two-tone black-and-red paring knife caught my eye. Even the carbon steel razory blade is coloured to match the red of two-tone handle. The non-stick 3.5" blade has a minimal but snug-fitting cover ... in matching red, naturally. The handle has black sticky-rubber inserts top and bottom.

Buddy at the store (who I trust and like) assured me that his wife adores all her Paderno knives.

I slapped down the credit card, and brought it home and just now finished drilling a tiny hole in the very tip of the blade's tough little cover/sheath ... after starting the tiny pilot-hole with a heated-up paper clip. Then I poked-in the thin tough little black nylon cord (a one inch loop) that's attached to the tiny female-side of a tiny quick-release Fastex-style buckle from a leftover I.D.-tag neck-strap.

Piece a cake. Works great.

On sale for $6.99 ... marked down from $11.99 ...

(All prices in Canadian funds.)

Glad you're happy with it. I don't do neck knives, but I like the out of the box thinking.

Hey TLE ... thanks so much for adding the visual. I don't do neck knives either. However, I am sitting here in my Dickies overalls experimenting with less over-the-top options. :)

But I've already got a fine Kershaw Whirlwind clipped into my left chest pocket, where it's been for years.

Hickory n Steel, yes, at a full eight inches I am guessing that it is at the outer boundary of obtrusiveness/awkwardness/floppiness when being open-carried. I have no experience of carrying or using a neck knife ... just was mildly aware of them ...

But in the hand it feels just great. Plus cheap and light and a superb slicer for delicate surgical procedures ...

A bit of a trade-off, as are many things in life ... :)

Well, it's not so much neck knives as neck anything. I just don't like things hanging around my neck.

Problem solved! The "female" half of the tiny little black plastic Fastex-style buckle ... which is attached through the tiny hole in the tip of the sheath with a 1" length of über-fine braided nylon ... squeezes perfectly down into the top of the pencil slot in my overall's bib pocket. Knife is secure and dangles in perfect spot ... no neck strap.

Would not wear to a coffee shop, but maybe handy in the boonies or in my rowboat or fishing ...

EDIT: I just whittled one-half of a wooden clothespin so it jams solidly/tightly into the open end of the tiny Fastex and poked the combination down into the pencil slot, with the peg at the bottom-end and the Fastex hidden just below the top. No way that "suspension system" will fall out or come loose accidentally. Yet I can pull it straight up and out in a second ...

I love neck knives but they have to be under 4" oal, and that ones a little big.

Hi H & S,

I just stumbled across this new tiny Mora ... still a bit too long for your specs but inexpensive and stout ...
