Very different Custom shop stamp

I just received this Koa Flamewood 110 and I'm really puzzled by the tang stamp. The "stamp" appears to be engraved instead of being stamped or etched. If it was only on the Bos S30v side, I'd think that someone had added that to a plain 420HC blade, but because the "stamp" on the front side is done the same, I just don't know.

Any opinions?

Dave, I think thats a Buck, I've seen them done that way before . I don't own one w/ that 'Buck Custom' stamp but the BOS stamp I had . So, I examined this with magnification and mine looks the same . Good photo detail . Perhaps someone will have one to compare . DM

Very nice detailed pics Dave! I have never seen that type of stamp before. It looks very tedious to me ;) Love the KOA BTW!

Thank you, it's a very nice piece of wood in my opinion. It's so much better than the one I ordered last year, it's inspired me to send my other one back and ask them to redo it. I'm going to wait until Joe is back though.

Here's the tang stamps on my other one for comparison.

Looking again, it may not be a stamp but a acid etch . This latest one you posted is a stamp . Nice wood . DM

Naww David, it's not an acid etch. I have other Bucks with that type of marking and this one is definatly engraved. It's like the engraved serial numbers on the Limited Editions that are serialized.

I'll try a different angle on the photos to show it better if I can.

Very nice KOA and very weird stamp. Technically, I don't think it could really be called a stamp.

Whatever it is, it's shallow and looks cheap......I hope the knife is real, as I hate to see you get a fake, but I also hate to see Buck using such crappy-looking stamps.

The knife looks too good to be a fake, but.....

I agree that the markings are engraved Plumb, but whomever did the engraving REALLY did a poor job on the "B" in BUCK!

If it came from the Custom Shop, perhaps calling Buck will get an explanation?

It will be interesting to see what Buck says about this one.

They always used to list what type of steel it was on the documentation.

Hi Dave,

Looks like Buck has used their Laser to do a deep cut/etch in the steel (not just a burn mark). It will be cool to hear what Jeff has to say. That does not look like engraving to me as it looks to deep. Anyway, who ever or however they did it, they need more practice before they do it on someone's custom knife!

Post #8 is what made me think it came from the "Custom Shop". Check out the "COA" pictured.

The knife came from the Custom Shop in either late '09 or early '10. I have quite a few custom shop knives made beginning in '08 to the present whose COA's say nothing about either the handle or blade material. All the COA's that I have that give that info are with Customs that are much earlier than that, but I have no idea when they stopped doing providing that info.

When Joe gets back to work, I'm sure that he can track down the knife by it's number and get the info for me.

I'm aware of that, my question was whether or not Plumberdv got it direct from the Custom Shoppe or from a private party.

There should be a computer printout with the details of the knife on it. It may have been thrown away at some point by somebody.

How did that work out for you? I just got a brand new custom shop with Koa and am highy underwhelmed with the wood. Did they do it for you no questions asked?

I haven't done it yet. I'm going to wait until Joe is back at work. When I send things direct to him, I know that they get done right and more quickly.

I've never gotten any knife from the Custom Shop that came with any computer print out of any kind and I have ordered at least three myself. I have others that I bought from people I know who ordered them themselves with the same generic COA's. As far as info in the COA's go, here's two from the custom shop when they were still offering damascus blades and their COA's. Neither of them even hints at the handle or blade material so to think a knife is not a real Custom Shop knife because of lack of that info on the COA is just silly and borders on paranoia.
