Very different Custom shop stamp

This is the computer printout that comes with authentic knives from the Custom Shoppe......or at least it did when I last made a purchase.

I've only show a portion of it, but it comes with the Buck trademark at the top of the page.

When you buy them second-hand from others somebody may have thrown away this part of the paperwork.

to think a knife is not a real Custom Shop knife because of lack of that info on the COA is just silly and borders on paranoia.

Gosh, Plumberdv.......nobody said they were thinking that and there's really no need for namecalling, is there?

I'm gonna start to think you're a grumpy old man if you keep acting grumpy.

;)

Just trying to help you out here.......so did you get the nice KOA from the CS or a second-party seller?

Hi Dave,

Looks like Buck has used their Laser to do a deep cut/etch in the steel (not just a burn mark). It will be cool to hear what Jeff has to say. That does not look like engraving to me as it looks to deep. Anyway, who ever or however they did it, they need more practice before they do it on someone's custom knife!

It would SEEM that if it were done by laser, it would be through the use of a CAD program and it would be near perfect.

Perhaps those Buck fellows have laser pistols, and that's how it is done:D

I've toured Buck's new plant and observed the plasma cutters (CNG) in use . I saw the door to the engraving area but didn't go in so I can't say . However, this discussion stirred me to examined my plumb paperstone 110 that I returned to Buck to have them add the steel type (I realize I'm talking about a different emblem) . Well, guess what, it has the same double line type pattern throughout as the Custom in Plumber's 1st photo . Then the 'B' in Bos as well has squiggly lines in it, not as bad as Plumber's knife but enough to add a legitmate possibility toward our discussion here . Not sure what machine it was done with but it carries the same MO . Then if you'll remember we were issued 2 COA's for that knife so I'm just oozing with information on this Custom . My 2 cents . DM ;)

Bingo David! I checked mine out and it's the same as yours. I also checked the 110 and 500 green micarta club knives I got this year. The tang is stamped on the "club" side but the S30V and Bos logo is done exactly like the 110 in this thread.

I vote: it's not hand engraving.
I second: it's lazer/plasma cutting.
I speculate it could still be Buck done even with the botched B. for a number of excuses.
I vote: It should have a good B on a Custom.
I hope: Joe gets well and can handle all the worlds problems.

I'd say even if they fix the B......the "mark" (can't call it a stamp) looks crappy.

A real knife should have a real stamp.

I guess we should look on the bright side. This will make our old knives with real stamps worth more.

:)

Your first photo on this thread shows a laser etching. I have that on several S30V specials and customs, some of which came direct from Buck Inc...

Funny looking "B" though. Could be a calibration issue.

Any chance the blade is not orginal. I was thinking maybe that KOA had a BG-42 blade (very desireable) and it was swapped for a plain blade and a stamping effort was made later. Weird stamp in any case.

Problem is how does anyone get an unstamped 420HC with no stamp unless its not a Buck Blade.
