Most Benchmade Knives are sharpened for heavy cutting with a standard edge, I do not believe they were intended to have a razors edge.
 
It's been posted on the forums many times , but perhaps deserves to be repeated: To avoid blunting the tip of the knife on a Sharpmaker, use only the flats of the rods on the tip, and end your stroke with the tip still resting on the flats. You may also want to end your stroke with the tip down to keep the bevel from widening as the blade curves upwards (keep the edge perpendicular to the rod).
