Very Disappointing Becker BK11

The easiest solution is to make the Sharpmaker lopsided to match. Stick something under the far end on the side that matches and this will force the other side to be more obtuse.

That's just silly. Why settle for an uneven grind when it is so easy to fix? And if you want it uneven just sharpen it that way. It takes an extremely small amount of practice to achive the minimal skill to sharpen without all the frilly devices.

And what will you do in an emergency when all you have is a rock?

OOPS! Sorry I can't help I left my super duper gizmo at home and my knife is too dull to cut.

Just Silly!

My brute (bk1) had a pretty uneven grind when i got it but it was still sharp. Eventually after beating the edge out of it I remedied the uneven grind giving it a solid onceover with my Gatco system then convexed the edge with a strop. Took a while but well worth it in my opinion.

If your edge is uneven at 25/15 which I have seen commonly on many knives and you reduce it to 15/15 then one side will now be much wider than the other and you have also reduced the included angle from 40 to 30. Both of these are non-trivial consequences for some users. You have radically effected the resale ability for one and have shifted the performance significantly from the initial edge configuration.

My point was simply that you don't need to reprofile to sharpen that knife on the Sharpmaker, you can just tilt it so it matches the edge. I do this all the time when I want to work with a knife with the stock profile and compare it to other knives. If you want to reprofile to improve the cutting ability then do so, but is isn't necessary to allow sharpening on the Sharpmaker.

You can easily make a Sharpmaker from a rock, I discussed how to do this years ago. The fundamentals to v-rods are that it is easier to hold a vertical than a specific angle. With this in mind you can apply the same method to rock sharpening readily.
