ok, very good day. although i am still a few days away from receiving my tkcl folder from larry chew i bought one in the secondary market and it arrived today and is perfect.

i also got a keith coleman malachite handle/spline damascus blade and bolster knife and it arrived today.

tonight was the middle school silent auction and since my son had to play his drum ensemble piece i went. heading to the silent auction, i bid on a gob of stuff knowing i won't win anything-- don't even have my checkbook. then, the PRINCIPAL asks the magic question:

Does anyone have a knife?

Naturally, I reach in the pocket of my TAD explorer jacket and pull out (NOT the Strider MFS I had in earlier today, but) the Keith Coleman knife! Oohs and aaahs all around and I get assigned the tasking of cutting through the tape on the boxes. A task that my leatehrman micra would have handled, but all the teachers had to come and see how pretty my knife was.

To top it all off, I won a Jesse Barfield autographed baseball bat and a ball signed by him and his son (now in the minors I believe). His tounger son attends the same school.

Life is good.

I certainly can't complain. It's that once-a-year event called a Birthday. My employees treated me well...I even got an apple fritter from one of them. My wife and two young boys stopped by work in the afternoon with cake and icecream to share with the staff. I've had hugs, kisses, and cuddling from my little guys tonight as we watched a cartoon together.

I voted "really well," but in reality, it just doesn't get better than this! :) I'm very, very blessed!

Not a great day. Kt had some outpatient surgery yesterday, and had a few complications from it today. Hadda come home early from work (again) much to my bosses chagrin.

Things are good in general, tho.

Really well!

Not as good as Ron's or Frac's, but...

Having returned to the full-time gunsmithing business after being semi-retired for many years, I proved to myself that I still have "the magic touch" with the boom sticks.

Had a customer bring in a Springfield Armory 1911A1 that was "sick" in some very unique ways and managed to fix it up far better than "factory new."

The customer won't be in to pick it up until Monday, (Airline pilot, out of town til then.) and I can't wait to see his eyes bug out when he gets his gun back!

It's really nice to know that some things, you never lose.
:D

BTW, that blade is absolutely GORGEOUS!
Green is my favorite color and that thing looks green as a Summer's day.
:)

I'm a manager at a struggling software company. I had to lay off one of my employees today. He took it quite well, but I'm still a wreck. This is the second time in six months... :(

My day was pretty good...I had a great telephone conversation with Pat Crawford that ended in an order for a custom Wortac :D

I also got to try on a Patek Philippe Jumbo Nautilus and 10 day power-reserve (for you watch lovers).

Bob,

I can relate. I had to let a really nice employee go about 6 months ago and was a wreck for a couple days. I never want to get used to that part of management! :(

...if you can get up on your own speed, and go about your business.

A heartfelt word of encouragement here for those that are down, or have friends or family down, keep your smiles on, and enjoy the small things in life...

Ronbo, happy birthday duuuude, glad you made it another day, and your family sounds pretty darn cool too!

For everyone that had a knife, received a knife, or used a knife..."Good on ya!" (bastids...lol)

Me? I ordered 'his and hers' flat ground Jess Horn Spyderco exclusives from A.G. Russell today. :)

but most importantly...my wife is coming home tomorrow, "Woohoo"

Working in separate towns, and being apart really sucks, but tomorrow is 'our' day...and I'm pretty darn thrilled about seeing her!

All in all, a pretty darn good day! :D

I voted for sucked. Today I realized that I'll have to send three of my Emersons back to EKI to have liner work done on each one. I just got the Commander yesterday in a trade and was looking forward to carrying it. The liners on each one all lock up at the very far right of the tang, something that may be unsafe later. So tomorrow, I'll kiss each one goodbye for now... for they will be in the hands of Mary, Derek, and Ernie who should fix them up right as new.

Now if this thread is still going when they get back... I'll pick the one on top:D

I got an Emerson with a liner problem today too. It looks like the tang is ground unevenly.(hard to explain) But at the price I got it for I'm going to keep it and send it in for some work as well. I also went to a prenatal class with my wife tonight. Learned about breast feeding. So, a good but not great day.

Ron:

I'll have to bear that last bit in mind. If it ever stops bothering me I'll know I'm in trouble.

Thanks for the sympathy.

And thanks to the rest of you for sharing your good and bad experiences. This thread has made me feel a bit better overall.

Yesterday was definitely one of those some good, some bad kind of days. Got some high priority work out of the way, more than a week before the deadline for its completion. :D Then got stuck at work way late and didn't get to go to the gym. But when I got home, my new Spyderco Meerkat had arrived. Except there was a QC problem and it didn't close properly.:( Fixed the problem myself, by application of diamond hone and elbow grease. :)

So now I'm back at work and it's time to start the process all over again. Except no new knives expected in the mail, today.;)

It was a mixed day no knives though just potential. (Unexpected bonus check and it was a nice one and another one is due in a month.)
Toggeled with screwing up my tax withholding this year and getting a stupidly large refund (I would rather pay an than get a refund). I am ready for the Blade Show.

Then I heard that a close knifemaker friend had an operation. Hopefully not too serious, but I have this "mother hen" syndrome to deal with when it comes to friends and family.

Then the news about Ira :(

  • Stuck in a crappy job, with no prospects for any improvement…
  • Due to the aforementioned crappy job, exiled to a wretched part of the world that seems to become more intolerable with each successive day…
  • Living in an overpriced apartment complex that seems to be overrun with drunken frat boys and refugees from trailer parks…
  • Health continues to deteriorate due to admittedly self-destructive behavior…
  • Personal finances in the dumper…
  • No friends, no hobbies, no social life whatsoever…
Oh yeah, life is just peachy-keen . It’s pretty pathetic when your life consists of staring at walls and waiting to die…

Please excuse the tirade; I just have to vent every once in a while…put me down for “sucked” ;).

BTW, that's a great-looking Coleman folder, frac :).

I forgot to mention another reason for having a good day. Although I am unemployed at the moment, my job prospects are excellent and I can feed the six kids. Although one of my daughters had been in ICU in LA all week, she is in a regular room and improving. And you know I really enjoyed living in Oklahoma.

Sorry Ugly Jim; hope you can make some bright side to see.

Okay, I guess I ought to apologize for my last post…clearly, my life isn’t all that bad in comparison to a lot of folks. The question just caught me at a bad time, when my sense of perspective was a little skewed by some recent events (sometimes I can become a real whiney, self-pitying jerk). Clearly, things could (and probably will) be a lot worse. I’m too old to let myself give in to this type of self-indulgent whining…I’ll try to keep it from happening again ;). Sorry, guys…

Thanks for some much-needed perspective, frac…I sincerely hope things work out well for you and your family.

Actually today kicks ass! I just got off the phone with Derek at EKI and found out that I have nothing to worry about with my Emersons. That means my Commander is back in rotation... HELL YEAH!

Great day,
Woke up this morning and ordered a Camillus OVB Fisk Bowie then went to my flight school and took the written exam for my IFR rating...I passed but not by much. Looks like now I can start studying for the dreaded check ride.......waaaaaaahhhhh!!!
