Okay, the mailman had a sheepish look on his face when he handed my wife a USPS Priority Box today...

He said "it was like this when I got it... I already reported it... You can call if the contents are damaged..."

Here's what the box looked like:

I was scared to open it, afraid i might find a big mess... The sender (madjack) wrapped the blade and original cardboard sheath in LOTS of bubble wrap and tape:

Here's what came out, a Euro Mofo, still as mint as a Busse can be :D

So, the moral of this pictorial is ---- WRAP THEM KNIVES UP REAL GOOD!

Thanks Madjack

Great looking Blade:thumbup:

Never seen a usps box that messed up. Looks like it was opened, retaped and stomped.

I think that if you mark the box "Fragile" it signals the postal workers to get the box caught in the machines.

At least the contents survived in perfect condition!

WOW! When I saw this thread my stomach did a flip. The box was definately re-taped. The tape going across the top was not original when I packed it. Maybe it was "Homeland Security":D Well, I'm glad it all worked out. I do everything I can so they travel safe ( I even had the counter person stamp it "Fragile".. but you can never account for all circumstances. Enjoy that knife! I'm gonna show the post office this picture.

Ouch!!!

Looks like it fell out of the bag and the postman backed over it with the truck.

Another tip... Something I've started doing a while back is to put another addy label on the wrapped up knife inside the box JUST in case the knife is seperated from the box. GREAT wrap job on that Mojo.

you lucked out big time! excellent sender/seller and a indestructible knife!

Congrats Eli, that's a real sweeeeeeeeeeeetie!

Yup! second label, I have been doing it for years! And "bomb-proof" taping!:D:thumbup:

Oh man,
U must of been freaked out before opening up the box.. Looks like it got ran over by a USPS truck...lol

Reinforces the theory that by putting "fragile" stamps on the box only encourages immature knuckle-draggers to treat the box like poo!

My postal lady suggest NEVER put fragile stamps for just such reasons.

I usually try to wrap the knife in enough of a ball that it can't "slip" ot even in a catastrophic mishap such as that.

The one item we ever received at home, damaged and a complete loss, the seller put the thing in the box, poured peanuts over it and called it 'good to go', or something like that. Since that time, nothing I've ever mailed didn't arrive in perfect shape and just a little over-wrapped at that...

...and for rule one, two and three. Insure it. It's your money after all!

Everything above, plus, make sure that after packing the knife, there is no movement in the box. The one mutilated box I received had a well wrapped knife rattling around inside the box. I think the heavy knife did the damage. The knife, a SWKW Battle Guard, was in fine shape.

USPS recommendation. If the outer label is damaged, the "dead letter office" will look inside to find where it came from or where it should go.

make sure that after packing the knife, there is no movement in the box.
The last knife I packed for shipment rattled no matter how many plastic bags I stuffed inside the outer box. Crazy! I finally gave up and unpacked everything. Turned out I hadn't wrapped the knife itself inside the original box before wrapping the box itself.

If it rattles, it can tear itself through the outer box. If it's at all loose, it gives potential thieves the idea there's something they can get to and how heavy or large it is.

two things you can do to protect a knife in a priority box - wrap the knife completely in cardboard. get another box, cut it open and then roll the knife up in it. bend the edges over and tape them down. that way, the knife would have to have a lot of weight applied on the butt of it before the tip could force itsway through the cardboard wrap.

you can also get either the triangular boxes, or if you have them, cardboard tubes, cut them to the height of the box and put them at the corners/sides. they will help brace the box from weight being put on it in a top to bottom flat wise manner.

i tend to just wrap the knife in cardboard and hope for the best...

All is well that ends well, i learned some lessons about packing my own knives better.

thanks again madjack!
