Very impressed by CQC-6K collab!

mattidallama,

Would you happen to know the dimensions of the bronze washers you used in your cqc-6k? At least the thickness of the ones you used. I tried playing with the pivot and it threw the centering off and wasn't as smooth as I feel it should be. Was think about getting some bronze washers for it. I don't have much experience with replacing washers. Will there be a break in period, or will they be smooth right away. Thanks for any info in advance.

Update since my OP. My 6K has risen to be one of my favorite folders. I pretty much carry only Emersons these days, and honestly, the smaller size and more conventional grind of the 6K makes it better suited for most tasks than even my true Emersons, with their blunt, thick blades and backwards chisel grinds. It gets just as much pocket time as its hardcore siblings !

Great carryability, great utility, great quality, and of course, great design.

Definitely getting some more of these as backup. Wish the other Kershaw collabs appealed to me. Hope they stay on the market for a long time to come.

Thx.

I love mine I got it to try out the wave feature and now it's in my rotation came in with really bad centering but I used some left over bronze washers instead of the plastic ones that came with it and it opens smoother and center is better. I like using for practice modifications because if I ruin it it had a good run and was not that expensive. I have already made blue glow in the dark spaces and am working on making some scales for it.

Would you happen to know the dimensions of the washers you used?

I actually ordered one of these cqc4-xl knives but havnt picked it up yet,I will in a hour or so. Same reason as alot of you is the reason I wanted to try and if I like it alot a jungle comadner is in my future. That price point doesn't hurt either I wouldn't feel bad about thrashing a 40 dollar knife. I will actually be getting my younger brother a person soon for a deployment gift as he is a corpsman shipping off to Okinawa in a few months. Pretty cool gift right?

My first post.
I have carried a pocket knife every day since I was 8 years old with exception of a few flights since 9/11, yet a knife or two was always in the checked bags.

My first Emerson was a CQC-7 of some variation that I purchesed at a flea market as part of a bundle with two Swiss Army multi-tools. It was the toughest knife I owned and used for about every task I tried it on with success. It walked away from my other tools on a job site two years ago and unfortunately I could not afford a replacement.

I found a CQC-6K on Amazon when I was looking to bump a purchase to get free shipping. Wow I was most impressed with this knife, it fit my hand very well and arm hair shaving sharp. Could not believe the value.

This past Monday three additional blades were delivered, two were E/K units, a CQC-7K and a CQC-5K. The 7 is still at home, the 5K joined me on my business work travels. Most impressed that this folder is made with a linear lock and G10 scales on both sides, in Olive drab. It has been used the last two days, stripping casings from 18-10 and 18-6 cables during a install. As sharp today as received. My other work knife a Leatherman required a touch up every night, not this CQC-5K

I will get my CQC-7 direct from Emerson soon, need one more birthday fund raiser, but the three joint venture folders are very good and better value than the total cost. Ernie made sure Kershaw did these right. Great job.

I just got both the 6 and 7, unfortunately I hadn't been to a dedicated knife show in a few years so I was taken when I bought them, the guy had $60 price tags a piece and I've always wanted to try an Emerson influenced design, especially the wave feature and the thumb disk. Now I paid $90 for the pair and thought I got a great deal,I played with them both all day and they both came hair shaving sharp outta the box and I'm impressed even though I over paid by $30 . Three are tough knives as far as I can tell so far, fit and finish are decent, lock up solid at about 40%-60%.

I also picked up 3 other knives that more than made up for the over payed CQCs, a Camillus Cuda Arclite for $10, a Boker 2030 ceramic titanium lockback with box and papers for $20 and Parker/Frost Spirit of America Sleeveboard Coffin Jack for $10 great score I think I did alright, I shoulda checked the prices on the Kershaws before posting but the other deals made up for it. :)

Over all for $30-$40 collaboration knife made in China by 2 respected companies, made with decent materials, (hey for that kind of money don't expect D2 and Carbon Fiber). They're hand filling, beefy knives that elevates the level of beater knife to something I can live with. I haven't tried the Rat 2 folder yet but I've heard it being compared to the Rat more than a few times.

The softer steel will require more maintenance than most of the production knives in that price point with harder stress but again for a knife with a wave feature that works at that price is a major plus. The knife will answer your question as to whether the Wave I'd fit you or not without dumping a lot of money to see.

I think they'll become a poor man's collectible down the road.
