Very Old Buck STones

Tele, Great job ! Thanks . Yes, the first photo is of the 101 carborundum 1961 according to Larry's article . Then you followed w/ photos of the 130 and 131 (1964) . With 300's crock sticks that takes us thru 20yrs. of Buck's sharpening products of the early factory days . Thanks guys ! I wish the article had these photo's, which would make it clearer .

Well David,

I bet Larry would be glad for you to use our photos, reorganize and add to his info and make it into an article for the BCCI newsletter. Giving him reference during quotes, of course. I bet John F. would weclome such an article.....I bet a Buck.......

Craig,
you would win that bet!! David, go for it! It would be a great help to have more people contribute their knowledge to our membership. Much of what I have written just builds upon the previous contributions of others. People like Vern Taylor, Paul Lentz, Eugene Shoemaker, Charles Tofft, John Miner, Ernie Logan and others taught me things, answered my questions and encouraged me to keep researching. I still have loads to learn but I can humbly say I know so much more than I did when I first got the Buck bug.

Might as well throw in a couple more including the small Buck Hard Arkansas Stone No. 130 and the 131 Washita.

Telechronos:):):)

The ones that "Telechronos" just put up are exactly the ones I purchased. Those are the boxes that they came in and it looks like the very stones I'm talking about. I'm wondering now just how long they were on the market?

This entire Forum is great. I very seldom fail to get answers to my questions here on Bladeforums. >> the best overall knife forum on the web

Darn I just wish I would have kept much more of the Buck merchandise I bought back then :(. But who would have ever known that the hobby of knives would have exploded the way it has in the past 10 years or so.

Hey by the way does anyone know when that model 137 Buck sharpening steel was on the market?

No 300, I had already e-mailed Larry on the items I didn't understand and he cleared them up . The photos would have helped me as I was on a different wave link . DM

JD, I'll try to answer . I think (perhaps others know) the 137 came out in the early 70's . (I can't load those catalog's) Then was available for close to mid 80's . DM

JD, Thank you for your kind remarks . I know what your saying on Buck merchandise . I too wish I'd kept better track of that stuff . But I'm lucky for what I have kept . DM

Joe Houser provided the following information concerning the 101. Apparently, there is an older one that the one I have pictured.

"So very little is known about the older Buck stones. One thing that I am pretty sure of is that the oldest 101 will come in a box that has been wrapped with a Buck Knives label. I guess we purchased the stones from the carburundum (spelling?) company and put a specially made label over their box. The next step was to have our own boxes made.
I've seen a couple of the label covered boxes over the years. Buck does not even have one in its archives."

Tele, Larry has one and it is the same stone as you show in the photo of your 101 just a different box . DM

Excuse me JD I missed one of your questions . The model 130 & 131 came out in the early 60's (64)and both were still being offered in the early 80's . So, around 20 plus years . Perhaps someone else can get closer . DM
