Very sad story. Bye bye pacific salt! :-(

I came in today on the kayak with some nice snapper and thought I'd take a few glamour shots with my tasman and pacific salt. Well....I reached in my waistband for my PAC salt and it was not there. The ocean ate it. :-(. Probably lost it when I was launching in the surf. I didn't use it on the water so I didn't even notice until I got in. It's pretty common to lose gear to the ocean kayak fishing, but it still bummed me out. It's was not my most expensive knife, but it was definitely my most beloved and my most used!

Anyway, I've got a buddy coming down Friday so I called knifeworks and had them ship me a new one out today. I'd still rather have my old one back though. I had some good days with that knife in the last year. Oh well.

So here's my pic with the pacific salt glaringly absent. :(

Sorry to hear about that ! Nice fish !!!

When I was younger I often lost things when whitewater canoeing. I finally bought a bag that buckled to a thwart, and didn't lose much after that. I still always had a knife in pocket or clipped to vest and was lucky not to ever lose one.

Always sad losing a knife but whoever finds it in the future will have a corrosion free example of a Spyderco.

RIPSPS.

It died well.

Glad you got a new one on the way brother man!

Also, my next dive trip will be in CR I think. ;)

It's in a better place.

Hahaha. For real. :)

I know it sounds silly, but I'm pretty sad in a sentimental kind of way. I swear, I feel like my dog died or something. I've got a new one on the way, but this one had developed character. Fish guts mashed into the scales. Reground blade. Big scratch lines on one side from the time I cut that giant snappers head off. It always reminded me of good times when I looked at it. I guess it should reinforce the idea that the users are the ones we end up really loving. Meh, whatever. I guess I've got a new puppy to train! :)

Sorry to hear about your loss. I enjoyed reading about your adventures with your Pac Salt!

Oh, and BTW, your lost Pac isn't dead; being a Salt, its merely lurking somewhere on the ocean floor, intact, waiting to be discovered by some lucky diver.

Yeah, as bummed as I was to lose it, at least I lost it the "right" way. The PAC salt going to a watery grave feels much better than if I had just donkeyed out and lost or misplaced it. Or if it had gotten stolen in the airport or any number of other unseemly deaths for a salt knife. This one was buried at sea. Maybe I'll be so lucky someday. ;)

You have got to get some cordage Lance. Those precious ones you never want to lose deserve a lanyard

I hear ya man, and I've tried it. Ultimately I found it ended up getting in the way and inhibiting their use. Nah, they're gonna live free and die free. I'm sure Sal will keep making em for me. ;).

I do believe I'm going to tie a very small cork on to the lanyard/fob though. At least that would keep it from sinking to the ocean floor if I spaz out and drop it over the side.

That sucks....But at least you know it will sit at the bottom of the ocean and never rust and be found someday by the Gorillas and Monkeys that take over the human race.

I see people use a lanyard more so in Salt knives, but like you I feel it gets in the way.

Sucks that it happened. I would have done the same., call a dealer as soon as I can for a replacement lol. I value mine much higher than its price also.

Sorry to hear it, man. I'm on the water a lot here in Fla and carry my pac salt everywhere. Time to make somenew memories with the new blade.

Sorry to hear it. I see you talking about your Pacific Salt often, and know you loved that knife.

Which model are you looking to replace it with?

You gonna do a regrind before you get it dirty and use it?

Yeah, that regrind made the knife way more useful for me so I will do this one as soon as I get a chance.

Another pacific salt of course!! ;)

However, having just lost one I went ahead and got the bright yellow handled version! :D
