About a month ago I got an email from one of the members here, stanley white. He told me he was getting married, and his best man asked what he wanted for a gift. He told him one of my Kepharts, but a very unusual one. He wanted it with a 1 3/4" tall blade, and the handle tapering from 1 3/4" and the end, to 1 1/4" by the blade to form a guard.

Congratulations on your marriage, and here is your new blade. I only wish I had gotten it to you sooner, you could have used it to cut the cake. :D I was honored to make it for you.

Brown micarta, left rough on request.

Thank you John for making me such a beautiful knife! I look forward to seeing it in person after I return from Honeymoon, (1) Each.

Some background for the other BF members...

My Best Man asked me what I wanted as a wedding gift and I told him I want a JK Kephart with a few custom touches. My Best Man sent John the money and the collaboration began!

I like knives with big handles, rough slabs, and a substantial guard. John and I took his basic Kephart design, fattened and roughed it up a bit and this is the outcome.

John -- this knife looks great. For the rest of my days it will be a symbol of the friendship between me and my Best Man, commemorate my wedding day, and be an enduring example of your craftsmanship. Thank you.

What a cool gift! Congrats to the bride and groom and to John for making the knife!

That is a incredible knife John, in both appearance and representation. I really love the handle shape and hollow pins. Well done sir. Congratulations Stanley!

So I return from my Honeymoon to see a "We Missed You" form from USPS waiting at my front door. I get up this morning so that I am at the Post Office when it opens at 0830 to receive my new XL-Large Kephart w/Guard from John at JK Knives paid for by my Best Man as a wedding gift.

I am impressed beyond words with this knife. The handle fits my hand better then any knife I have ever held. The handle transition from 1.75" to 1.25" to form the integral guard is extremely comfortable and builds my confidence that my hand is not going to ride forward -- an unsubstantiated worry I admit but it is left over from my .mil time.

The blade is 1.75" tall which the little bit of extra belly can help with various tasks such as skinning, batoning, and using the knife as a spoon / eating off of it etc. The sheath is a pouch style, very well made, and sturdy. I like the flared out belt loop a lot. Here are the overall measurements of the knife with pics:

4.5" Blade / 1.75" Tall / 1/8" Thick

4.5" Handle with 3/8" unfinished (rough) brown micarta

Nice knife Stanley. I like John's stuff a lot. It isn't the prettiest, but that doesn't matter to me. I am looking for FUNCTION and his knives/sheaths fit the bill. I like the fat blade!
