Something happened last week, a couple of things, really.
We had our monthly meeting at work. The last one was quite downcast, and the outlook for the rest of the year was bleak.
This time around, we have gotten several large orders, some of which span several years. What used to be our best case scenario is now our worst case scenario. Our best case scenario is far in excess of what anyone had hoped for.
What that means for us, is management does not want to hire or call back many, if any of the employees they've laid off over the course of the last year. For the rest of us, that means overtime, and a lot of it, for the foreseeable future. Which is good for me, as I've sold nearly everything of any value to make it this last year and the well is running dry. Now I'll be working to pay off as much of the debt I've accrued over the last three years due to the family situation and two surgeries.
The other thing is, we were expecting the head of the company that owns ours to come to this meeting, and hand out the employee of the year and another award that's for the top salaried person. Much to my surprise, I got awarded Employee of the Year. I was quite surprised, as the management played it well enough that I didn't even think I was in favor, much less in the running for an award. I'm also quite humbled because I can think of at least two of the people on the list (they pick from the list of employees of the month from the previous year) that were better choices than me.
I can only see this as a blessing from God, and perhaps a sign that this series of trials is over.
