ok, now normally im pretty satisfied with kershaw. but today i went to get my kershaw "vapor" and it has rust spots all over the blade and handle. wut the heck?!?!?!?!?!?!? :grumpy: now i havent used this knife at all since i bought it. i opened the package about a week ago then stuck it in my box. i have no problem with my other knives rusting this way or i would suspect there was to much moisture in the box. ive had knives in the box for over two years and had no rust problems. has anyone else had this problem? if so please share.

Where do you live? What sort of "box" did you store it in, the original factory box?

AUS6 shouldn't easily rust...

Mostly likely you stored it in a place that was damp, or you exposed it to dampness in between using it and before you stored it again and didn't realize it. Rust would certainly have formed long before you received the knife if the manufacturer stored it that way. Just some latent dampness on your hand is all it takes.

It is just not possible that the manufacturer was in any way at fault here.

i live in michigan. as for the box i have knives with much higher carbon content (a few old timers) and they have not rusted in the wooden box i store them in. could it be possible that i just got a dud blade?

Bingo. I bet it's corrosion spots and not rust. Simply wipe it with fllitz and it will be all nice and new.

relax dude! Metal is made of carbon and carbon rusts.

All it takes is a little oil and 00 steel wool to take the rust out. Much cheaper than Flitz. Don't get so upset man it's an easy fix.

not that i dont love kershaws products. i just have never had a blade get rust spots that quick n easy. i will just be more careful next time i guess.

you're ok man. I've been there. Keep a bit of oil on it and you'll be fine.

I had one that had a sticker on the inner wrapping saying "WARNING KERSHAW KNIVES ARE EXTREMELY SHARP!".

I took it out of the box and it wouldn't even slice paper and the blade is wobbly!

I haven't used it and when I have the time I will mail it back in.

Oh atleast there customer service was good so far.

The blade on mine hasn't rusted but after a day of light carry and use the handle did. First knife I've owned that did that.

Vivi, your opinions have no weight as you've shown that you have a personal vendetta against Kershaw and/or ThomasW. It's important that this fact is known to others reading your "opinions."

Watch yourself. You do not want to get in this moderator's sights.

I've dealt with "pin-point" rusting on various Kershaws.

I always figured it was simply a product of the common bead-blast finish.

It appears to be. I've polished some of my bead blasted Kershaws that showed rust at first and the problem went away.

Steel rusts. Some steel rusts more readily than others. Even minimal maintenance has a salutary effect on the problem, though.

I've had rust appear on some steels that are really not supposed to rust easily. Fortunately, it hasn't been serious, and was easily removed. It doesn't bother me when it happens.

I have brought it up before, however, as it is curious how a particular stainless steel would corrode relatively easy on one knife, and not on another. The speculation for causes run from possible microscopic contamination, to out of spec steel formulation. I chalk it up to mysterious knife voodoo.

Mysterious knife voodoo sounds logical to me. There is also the possibility of contamination prior to packaging. I would try a little metal polish and if that removed it, a bit of oil rubbed on lightly, and check it out periodically to see if the problem occured again.

I have had that happen with many bead blasted blades in 440C, Aus6 and Aus8 etc. It is just surface corrosion and not pitting. Treat them with TUFF-GLIDE.
