very upset with kershaw

Bingo. I bet it's corrosion spots and not rust. Simply wipe it with fllitz and it will be all nice and new.

relax dude! Metal is made of carbon and carbon rusts.

Brett

uhhh.... Maybe lets try that again.

I think you meant to say:

Steel is made of iron. And Iron rusts.

Great, now I have to go thru my Kershaws just to make sure they're OK. Thanks for the heads up on this. I know the small a/o knives get stiff and now I have have to look for rust.

I had the same problem with my vapor handle, but it was engraved so I assumed it was the steel from the engraving process that were still on the handle, I wiped it clean and it did not have the same problem again.

Sounds like 'fingerprints' to me. Rust likes to begin at a 'seed', and fingerprints, consisting of water, body oils and acids, provide that very thing, a tiny spot (or spots) of oil/water/acid which converts some iron into iron oxide, etc.

Weird, I' ve never had that problem with my vapor, though the pivot and handle screws have the tendency to losen up and wobble with mine.

It's not fair to blame Kershaw for whatever you did wrong. I had a SS, Kimber .45, pistol
that was wrapped in a silicone rag develop rust on the side that was down. It wasn't Kimber's fault (moisture from the air must have collected on the down side) you may think you didn't do anything that caused rust spots, but you probably did.

My pal has a Kimber SIS .45. Great pistol. I even told him I'm "in love with his sister, Kim." SO, the gun is officially named "Sister Kim." :D

I about cried when I unwrapped the rag and there was a few rust spots on my Kimber's slide! Lucky I found it in time and they came off with some metal polish. (mine is a compact and it hits where you are sighting, more than I can say for a lot of pistols-BTW my Mom's name is Kim so I can't call mine that)

All I can say is that I have an first run Random Task in 440V. It must be close to 10 years old with a lot of honest use under it's belt. It is not bead blasted though.

With a little bit of care, not one spec of rust. Action is fine, lock-up still solid. Every once in a while I have to adjust the pivot tension. When it is not used it sits in a knife box on a book shelf. I think the key is to wipe it down before putting it up, using a little oil on rare occasions.
