(VERY VERY PIC HEAVY) A Day Hike on the Old Mine Trail

Great photos! Looks like a really good time. No thanks on the spam though hahah! I cracked up at that falling down the mountain shot too.

Neat cooking oil trick too. Thanks for sharing

Thanks everyone!

We should hike it together sometime! First we have to get shooting out of the way. My boy is due next to arrive next Thursday though so schedule's gonna be a bit tight coming up!

I would love to, I have some awesome trails I want to show off!

Awesome post man! That looks like a great picnic spot and a great area to explore! Yeah, there are douches all over the place man. Here even miles off of the main road I find people's litter laying around

Glad everyone likes the cooking oil trick! It was born of desperation, I was scrambling to get my gear together one day and needed to bring along some oil, saw an old hand sanitizer bottle and thought if it can hold in sanitizer it can probably handle oil. I still keep it in a ziploc though just in case it ever leaks, wouldn't want to open my pack to a bunch of oil drenched gear one day.

Here's a closeup of my little oil bottle/formerly Purell:

After I peeled off the Purell sticker there was a lot of glue left on the bottle so I just cut out a scrap of paper for a label and it stuck on pretty well. I expect it will come off eventually but it'll do for now. You can turn this thing upside down and lightly squeeze on it and it does not leak.

I was in the mine reclamation business for many years. There are several interesting ways to die in old mines. Poisonous gases, collapsing timbers, old unstable explosives, vertical shafts. Be smart and stay out.
