Any vest rated by NIJ has essentially the same ballistic capabilities. That is, any vest rated level 2, for example, has been tested to stop the same threats effectively. Choice of product then depends on what you are willing to spend to be more comfortable. This is all relative, as I can speak from 27 years of daily wear experience that body armor is HOT in the warm weather. Thinner, more flexible ( and more expensive ) armor is more costly. Materials like Xylon fit this bill. If you are looking for occasional - use armor that will be worn for a couple of hours, go with a basic kevlar from a major manufactrurer ( Second Chance, Point Blank etc.) Daily, extended use will merit considering something far costlier. Again, ABA, Safariland or the above companies will suit for their upper end vests. Fit is crucial, so mail order should not be considered. Spend a few bucks on Coolmax t-shirts to transfer sweat. I got mine at sweatitout.com. BTW, most police agencies go for level 2 armor. Your threat apprehension may be different and a level 2A is lighter.
