I lined up the Vesuvius prototypes at the Blade Show and got this digital photo:

Spyderco-Vesuvius-handlechoices.jpg

The "pearly" handles are G10 that has undergone a "sea change" on the surface. Sal or somebody will have to explain what exactly they've done there. The crew was asking people what colors they liked best. Don't expect all variants to be produced in plain and combo edges all the time.

It's a Compression Lock, meaning that the blade or your hands will quit a long time before the lockwork quits.

I like it.

What a great looking knife!!! Can anyone supply some basic information, blade steel, blade length, when will plain blade be available, why always is the serrated edge introduced first, when will it be released, and how much? Oh yeah, where can I get my name on the waiting list?

I would love to see that handle material on a calypso jr! Or maybe on the new version of the Viele that's being discussed. Either of those would be a really elegant knife to carry for dress-up occasions.

Dang! You you guys please cut this out! I can't afford the stuff I have now....and then you go a do something like Vesuvius...dang!

I like the Green, yes definitely gotta get a green one. Of course the that yellow is nice too, but those are to nice to be carried, maybe I better get the regular black G-10. Dang it, what are you doing to me.

Once again, Spyderco has a home run.

I like the dark MOP color. And the plain G-10.

Very elegant, I will own one.

Is this a go-item? Will it happen, or is it still in consideration?

Price spread?

Availabity of scale variants?

Durability of scale variants? Will they take normal wear and tear?

Spyderco and Sal, thank you for privding useful cutlery that is beautiful.

It will be impossible to pick just one handle color. This will be another Spyderco blade that I will have multiples of in my collection. I do like the white/greyish one quite a bit.

MDP - thanx for the kind words.

It is a go. Should be beginning of the year.

Should be as durable as a normal shell. We don't have history on the process yet.

Don't know prices yet, I'd guess the $140 - 150 MSRP.

Haven't decided on which variants, but my guess is that we'll intro all of them and "hide 'n watch".

Under the show lights, that green became almost luminescent, like the green light at a traffic signal. This material does great things with light.

Beautiful knife. I love the swedged blade.

What kind of lock does this baby have???
And what is the blade made of?
And when can I have one!

Oops, didn't notice that the lock had already been covered. Ooh, I like that it has a Compression Lock.
And how in the Seventh Ring of Hell did Spyderco get G10 to look like that???
And will it be commercially available?
oh boy, I want one of these real bad...Especially if Spyderco would be so kind as to allow you to switch the clip around for tip-up carry. Please? Pretty please!!!

There are some more detailed pics that I'll post later tonight or tomorrow, but for now I'll just say that, like a liner lock, the compression lock works best tip-down. It's a speed-bump keeping it closed, not a spring that would pull the tip back into the handle if it opens a little.

GAWD!
Pu-lease let the first run be plain edged!
I need another combo-edge like I need another Angioplasty.

Seriously though, this is the knife I'm looking forward to getting ahold of. Next would be the Chinook. Great stuff, Sal!
