Happy Veterans Day to my fellow vets, a great day to reflect on friends and times long past. Me in the early and mid 1980's and the two Buck Knives that were always with me then. OH

May God be with each and every one of us and those who support us! Thank you to all those, families included, who have sacrificed so much for our freedoms in our beloved nation...AMERICA!
Still serving on Active Duty in the United States Navy...since May 31st, 2001...the very day after I received my H.S. Diploma, I was headed for Great Mistakes, IL.
Attached is a pic from one of three "pleasure cruises" across the BIG POND in response to 9/11 attacks. Did 3 deployments over the next 4 years on "The Big Stick," USS Theodore Roosevelt, CVN-71.
Being an AO, those next 4 years after 9/11 were extremely busy.
Take care my fellow warriors and vets!

I forget the percentage of our population that serve. Not sure where i heard this and if it’s serving active each year but 3% is the number i remember.
3% choose to protect the other 97% and with no reservations. I speak only of the armed services on this veterans day. Here’s to the 3% 👍🏻

Didn’t mean to forget but my Grandfather was 35 when ww2 broke out and was turned down because of age. His sailor son👆🏽got word to him that they were forming the Construction Battalion and with his Mechanics back ground he enlisted.
They sent the Florida Man not to the hot Pacific. Sent him to Alaska to build air fields lol.
I know where he was and most of his story I just need to find out what Carrier/ship my uncle served on. Dad said they flew him to the islands in the pacific to fix planes. I had some papers in a file box that indicated he made top rank and a letter from the Captain for his heroism when their ship was hit. I have since misplaced it? I did not scrutinize the information as it was probably all in the letter.
