Which of these two would you buy for an inexpensive EDC?

Spyderco Tenacious model 122GP. 3.5" 8Cr13MoV leaf-shaped blade. G-10 handles. Four-way pocket clip. Skeletonized steel liners. Round opening hole. Spine jimping. Liner lock. 3mm thick blade, flat ground. Weighs 4 ounces. Made in China. $31.95

Benchmade Vex model 10750BP. 3.3" 8Cr14MoV drop point blade. G-10 scales. Reversible tip-down pocket clip. Steel liners. Round opening hole. Spine jimping. Liner lock. 3mm thick blade, hollow ground. Weighs 4.7 ounces. Made in China. $41.00

Well, in my opinion, Benchmade just seems too willing to cut corners in order to sell a product, so I'd go with the Spyderco.

Here's an example of why I feel Benchmade seems too willing to cut corners: In their prior advertisements, they stated that their oval hole was superior to the round, Spyderco hole. However, they are now producing several models with the round, Spyderco hole. They have even recently changed the holes on some of their models from the superior functioning, oval shaped ones to the round, Spyderco shaped ones. Why would they do this?

I can really only think of two possible answers. In my opinion, they were either lying when they said the oval hole was superior, in terms of function, to the round, Spyderco hole, and I don't like companies that lie to the consumer, or they changed back to the round, Spyderco hole to try to grab some of Spyderco's market, in which case I feel they're also saying they prefer "fad over function," and I don't like companies that rely on imitation rather than innovation to sell a product.

Either way you slice it, I feel you are getting a superior product in the Spyderco. Heck, it's almost 1/4 cheaper, too!;)

Regards,
3G

P.S. Make that +4

The Vex is my favorite production liner-lock on the market. I've got two of them. Great handle and I love that the blade is in-line with the handle.

Tenacious comes close to being inline, but still drops the butt too much. Also has too abrupt of a thumb ramp at an odd angle.

The steel issue is a wash.

I don't own either, but I handled a Vex in a knife store and was very impressed with the quality feel.

The Tenacious is lighter, cheaper, has more clip mounting options, more ergonomic (Subjective) and I'd be willing to bet my Tenacious that Spydercos heat treat is superior. Plus you're supporting the company that originally used the round hole in its folders.

Tenacious. With a man like Sal at the helm you can't help but trust the brand. Plus, I handled the Tenacious and it's a fine knife. I have the feeling it's going to make a huge splash this year as more people get their hands on 'em.

Vex is by Benchmade? But... I thought the round... nevermind. :p
Guess you know which one I will get! :D

I'm a big Benchmade fan, but if you're going to buy one, buy one with an Axis Lock!

I had a Vex, but found it a little think and clumpy.

I have a Tenacious on the way, so +1 Spyderco !!

I don't know. Everyone knows that thumbstuds work best ;)

Never before did taking away something (making the hole) add so much [to usefulness].

I had a VEX and it wasn't an AFCK by any means. But... it was OK. Now if the Tenacious has a paper thin liner like the Military, I'll be passing on that purchase.:(
