Hi everyone. New to the forum, been spending way too much time reading all the posts. haha I was initially all for the Vex, then read what 'red box' meant. And I admit, the China part threw me off. Well, after doing more research on here it seems I was just being bias by a stupid stigma that held no weight in this case. So now, I am back on the bandwagon.. but have one new small concern.

I am a noob when it comes to knives, although I LOVE them so much. I wanted the Vex to become my new edc, as you gentlemen call it. But don't want something too big. I know the dimensions of it, but that doesn't tell you real world size as far as I am concerned. I was hoping someone could tell me how it compares in size with some of the others I own. I think thickness is a major concern.

I own/ have owned Sog Vision, Benchmade Stryker, A.G. Russell Featherlite (my favorite), and Applegate- Fairbairn Combat folder. Hopefully it is smaller than the Applegate.

Thanks for any help you guys can lend. Appreciate it.

Hello, welcome to Bladeforums!
I did a review of the Vex over at Benchmade forums, with some comparison pics. Do a search over there for Vex pics.

I find it similar to the Stryker 910, but it feels a lot heftier due to the steel liners vs the Ti liners in the 910. It is a wee bit thicker. The Vex is also a little taller than the 910. Of course the biggest difference is in the blade shape. The quality you get for less than 40 bucks is startling. The Chinese are really on their best game yet.

Well; I don't know the knife you speak of,but in regards to the "China" bias part.I don't see any reason to support a Country like China, irregardless of quality. Not to stray off your topic here.I think if people do not want to see more USA companies crash and burn like most recently Camillus Cutlery,we need to put our money into the fine products us Americans manufacture, before handing over cash to a Country that almost single handedly has destroyed all our USA manufacturing jobs.Keep our jobs here.

Yes sir, I read your review and thats what made me get back on the Vex wagon. Haha

Well, according to that logic you and I would both have to keep all of our purchases in house. So you are telling me that you only purchase items made stateside? Come on now. Be real. Its a $40- knife. What kind of car do you drive? What about your t-shirt? Your shoes? Your watch? Your computer you are posting from? Your tv?

Amen to that. All the talk about boycotting China is a little on the unrealistic side. I don't know one person who can completely live in modern day society without dishing out some personal money into the sweat-shop industries. If someone can prove to me that they're 100% supporting American jobs, then, well, he/she wins the argument.

Besides, Benchmade is doing fine. They make US-made products still, despite the Chinese/Taiwanese connection.

That attitude is why we are in the position we are in this Country.I understand we can't keep all our purchases stateside, which is a direct result of us killing off our own manufacturing by purchasing China products, even when other alternatives exist, even in similar price ranges. To answer your question,my shirt, pants, belt, underwear, socks, shoes I'm wearing right now are made in the USA.I don't wear a watch, but if I do purchase another,I will definately look into a domestic option if available.I'm typing this out on a Compaq computer which I believe is at least partially made here,if there is 100% USA alternative, I will buy one.I have a Queen mountain man knife in my pocket and just purchased a Camillus BK7,a USA made Carhartt jacket,USA made Londonbridge backpack. My vehicle is a Jeep Cherokee,my guitar is a USA made Carvin, and a Crate Tube amp made by ampeg in the USA.While many USA made products do contain imported and Chinese made componants, I try and do my part with what is currently available.I just don't talk S***,I put my money where my mouth is,and purchase many things on-line that are USA made, and not sold in local stores because I despise China products so much. It's sad that many American flags are made in China, many have lost their jobs here, and the majority of products are Chinese made now,but this is not be because of my buying habits.I look at the manufacturing tags on everything before I buy it,do you?

Well thats good for you and I salute your loyalty. I am an American and proud of it. But I am not about to go to such extremes. If anything, instead of telling regular consumers such as myself on what to do, how about taking the fight right to Benchmade for their choice in sourcing out who manufactures their blades?

Anyway, back on topic. Anyone with a Vex.. please chime in about thickness and such. Thanks!

Applejax,I got 7-11/16" OA

I'm not telling anyone what to do.I'm also sorry you consider what winds up taking little or no effort to "extremes".I guess the answer to our manufacturing problems is right here in this thread."Good for you,but don't bother me" attitude.Take it to Benchmade? It is the consumer's who dictate what products do well, with which they choose to buy."regular customers" are the issue. Now I hope you haven't taking this as a personal attack on you,and I'm sorry for the thread drift, back to your original program.

Consumers are the little people. Take the fight, since you are so passionate about it, to the people who make the product and decide where it is made.

No worries man. I don't take anything on the internet personal. Nothing wrong with a bit of discussion. Our opinions just differ. I just don't think that this is such a big issue. You obviously feel much more strongly about it. And if I were in your position, I would look to make change at the origin. The company who decides who they outsource their manufacturing too. Thats all.

Applejacks,

List a couple other knives that you currently own, and I will try to find something close in size and post a couple scans with my Vex in the morning.

Hey.. I have or had one of these at some point.. Sog Vision, Benchmade Stryker, A.G. Russell Featherlite (my favorite), and Applegate- Fairbairn Combat folder.

I appreciate the info.

Ok, I don't have any of those, but here is a scan of it with a Spyderco Endura and a Victorinox Spartan Lite.

I'm wondering if you have been urging the same things in other types of forums like auto forums. I hope you have, because automobile industry is much much more important to US economy than knife industry (if I can call it an industry) and seemingly the portion of American buying non-US automobiles is more than that buying non-US knives.

It's not all about buying knives.I have mentioned the issue is manufacturing accross the board.Every products origin is important.Yes, I've also urged this at other forums I belong too.
