VFD problem

hooked everything up and no change

The motor spins freely with the drive on
Seem like the drive is not sending power to the motor
its a programable drive

Honestly, you may have burned the motor up by wiring it incorrectly.

Make sure the VFD is programmed properly for the startup current. If it is, then I'd have both checked out to make sure they're all functioning properly.

Sorry I didn't catch this thread in time...

No prob,
I have more than 1 motor and wired the second as you said to do. so i know that one is not burned out. the firstone may be but it was a freebie so no loss.
thanks for your help.

No probs. Hit me up if you have any more electrical questions

Unfortunately it isn't

I do believe this is a defective vfd
I know my motors are good.

I purchased the drive from fleabay. The seller has been a pain in the rear. He took 20 days to ship the item. Lied about the original ship date. And now the drive won;t work and the seller refused to respond to my questions. No return address on the box he shipped it in. Very sad.

That's the proper wiring, swapping any two phases will reverse the motor direction. Neither the motor or controller cares which phases
are wired to which terminal.

The other wiring diagram will cause the motor to not run or run at less than 50% power.

I'm pretty out of the way but if you want you can send me the vfd and I can try and get it running. Best of luck.

As an electrician I recomend you hire a good local union contractor that specializes in motor controls to set up you variable speed drive correctly ! Might cost some cash but will be done correctly and you won't burn up another motor !!

That chance that a VFD burned out a good Baldor 3Ph motor is null, it would go into protection.

This is how it is currently wired.
The VFD is not sending power to the motor.
I did not burn out either motor. I have checked both motors with my Genesis VFD. They are fine and function fine with that vfd.

Hey Brian,

Sorry to hear about your VFD probs. I'm kinda shopping around for a VFD, if I can find one I can afford. I sure don't want to blunder into a bum deal with a bum fleabay dealer though. Can you let me know who the rat was you got burned by? I don't make the same mistake. PM me if you'd rather.

On another note, does anyone know if there is a way to test a 3 phase motor without 3 phase electricity or a VFD? I have a chance to buy a used 2HP one for $30.

Thanks, Phil

Brian, have you done a factory reset on the unit? There are a lot of parameters on those systems, one or two improperly set could cause the drive to trip and not power the motor, that's what I would do. Making sure you have the proper manual for that specific drive.

You can hook up a single phase of the motor to 1PH power manually start the motor and it will run, you can test all three phases that way. Just make sure you have the wiring absolutely correct because unlike most VFDs raw 230V power can and will burn out the windings if shorted out.

You have a PM Phil.

I have tried a factory reset. No luck at all. I do have the manual. I have done everything to the letter.

Sending you a pm phil.

I think I'd gamble the $30. ;)

My 220V/2HP VFD cost about $140 shipped from "dealers industrial equipment, llc", at http://www.dealerselectric.com. I know several people who've bought from them with good results.

I liked the way they deal, their shipping was fast, and I really didn't find anything on Ebay that was a better deal and didn't smell funny.
