Vfd questions

What are the specs I need when looking at a VFD? I only have 110 in my garage and I'm about to grab a 2hp baldor. I was looking at the teco fm 50 it says the input is 380-480v and output is 0- 480. Would this work?
 
No it will not work. If all you have is 110v single phase then your need a vfd that says 110v single phase input as one of the requirements

Not based on what you have said, it would not. You should be looking for a 110 input drive.

The FM50 product family also peaks at 1hp for 110 input voltage. You would need 220 available for a 2hp with the correct fm50 drive.
 
The Teco's are decent, but as it has been pointed out here before, the button controls don't hold up well to frequent use.
 
it should not cost much to run 240 to your garage. you will want it if you ever buy a kiln. the KB27 is only rated for 1.5Hp when using 115vac input, although lots of folks say they power a 2Hp motor with a 1.5hp drive. Leeson does make a 1.5Hp drive that uses 115vac. other option is to grab a 1hp baldor motor.

I'm fine with it bumping it down to 1.5hp that's the minimum I want so I don't really wanna go down
 
Take it to a local electric motor shop and have them do a quick test since they are equipped to test 3 phase motors should just be a couple of bucks.

OK that's kinda what I was thinking just didn't know if there was another way

If its a second hand motor, Specify they evaluate its insulation resistance also.
They may include this in a basic evaluation, But in other words, Dont just ask that they see if it runs.
Its insulation resistance should be no less than 10 megohms. Higher is better...

Check bearings too, But you can do that yourself easily enough.

I asked if it worked and all they said was "it did when it was pulled from service" my gut is telling me to walk away from this one.
