I have a 1hp, 220V motor that I want to build up into a disk grinder. Is there a VFD that can plug into a 110V outlet that will convert the output to 220V to power the motor that would be recommended for my use? I want it to have forward/reverse control as well as a simple adjustment for speed control.

Confirming this is a 3 ph motor? If so, and you wish the very best the NEMA 4 unit from Automation is the way to go.

I'm looking for:
110v, single phase input
220v, three phase output

My motor is a 3-phase, 220v, 1hp. Plans are to build a reversible variable speed disk sander with it.

I suggest you go with a 240vac unit capable of more than 1hp in an IP 6X or NEMA 4 enclosure.
But said that, TECO model JNEV-101-H1 is about 150$
I dont think this one has built in reverse, but thats as simple as adding a toggleswitch.

I just purchased the 220 Volt version of the FM-50 VFD from Teco. It was easy to set up and relatively inexpensive compared to some of the other VFD's available. Keep in mind, this VFD will not keep out the dust on its own, so you may want to make a box to put it in with a door to keep the dust out. In the three hours or so that I have had it running, it worked great. Here's a link to the one that should work for your motor-

Got a recommendation for this one and it looks like a winner unless someone knows of another that will fit my needs and be NEMA 4 or better sealed and that would be less than $250. Shops are messy places. This one checks all the boxes from input, to output, to forward/reverse switch, to speed control, to quality enclosure that keeps dust and water out. It would likely last me a lifetime as a hobbyist.

That's the best one around - NEMA 4X and all you need.
