Hey Guy's,

got a quick question: i just wired up my vfd and motor from beaumont. all is running great. but when i flip up the "start" which i have a very faint steady beep that continues while the start switch is on. is this normal or do i have something mis-wired?

my other vfd is silent but its a completely different controller/motor. i'd appreciate any input.

I have the 1.5HP setup, and mine makes some kind of sound too but I'd have to go turn it on and listen again to remember exactly how it sounds. I recall it as a sort of high pitched whine maybe?

When I first got it, I asked Rob if that sound was normal and he said that it was.

Yep, thats the sound! mine is a 1.5hp on 110v. i e-mailed rob but needed to know ASAP so i can get back to the grind :) thanks for the info.

I have a 2hp set-up with the KBAC-27D (the same one that Rob sells I believe). When I first flip the power switch to the "on" position, there is a brief high-pitched whine. I assume that some sort of starting capacitor or something is being charged. It only lasts a second or so. This is the only sound the vfd ever makes. No sounds when flipping the run switch. No continuous sounds. The brief high-pitched whine on power-up is normal however.

yep i have tha same high pitch wine for a few sec's as well.

It's the 3 phase windings being energized by the VFD to start the motor. Motors actually make decent speakers, DC more so than AC though.

same here:D

Mines continuous, not just on start up. as long as it's not hurting anything i can deal with it no problem.

You need to adjust the carrier freq. Try setting it lower. It shouldn't whine continuously.
Its a good idea to lower the carrier frequency of the VFD to what is audibly acceptable.
This will reduce the number of output voltage pulses to the motor per second, which translates
into lower transition losses in the IGBTs and longer motor life.

I have also noticed the high pitched noise with mine, but no problems yet. (2 years)

Here the settings for the KBAC straight from the Beaumont website. Hopefully this is o.k. with Rob, espcially since yours is from him.

These settings are for the trim pots located inside the controller, at the very top, the white knobs.

See here http://www.beaumontmetalworks.com/VS-setup.html

This should give you the best settings for your VFD.

I've never had any problems using these settings on mine and it runs great.

Thanks guys,

i adjusted the settings as stated on rob's site. when my controller is at zero the belt still moves very slowly, which i like! i cant hear the high pitched beep anymore, but that may be because the belts moving. regardless, it's running according to Rob's direction and thats good enough for me :)

Anyone else adjust it so that belt is running at zero percent on speed dial? it's a good reminder and abouyt as slow as i'll ever use it!
