I am wanting too hook up a 1.5hp 220v 3 phase bandsaw. I want to use a vfd. The coolant pump is also a120v 1/8 hp 3 phase. Could you use 1 vfd for both. Is that possible. Thanks
 
You can use a single VFD and a 3phase switch to use it on one motor at a time, the VFD needs to be capable of handling the highest HP of the two motors, in this case 1.5hp (usually a 1.5kw vfd)

Since the drive motor and the pump motor are different voltages, I would get a VFD that will handle the drive motor, and a second low cost small 120VAC VFD to run the pump. The pump VFD will just run at 60Hz in/out.
 
Yep, best bet would be to find a cheap 1 ph motor to drive the pump. It needs to run at full speed to keep coolant flowing steady. While there is some merit in saying when the band saw is running slow, the coolant pump could be slowed down also, you might find the pump needs full RPM for a good steady flow. 1/8 hp should be fairly cheap, unless there's a special mounting for it? Special RPM? You could even put a 1/4 hp 1ph one with no problem for the pump motor if needed.
 
check the label on the coolant pump to be sure of phase and voltage. never heard of 120v 3 phase. there could be an internal transformer in the saw that steps down 220v 3ph to 120 3ph. owner's manual should cover all this as well as whether a VFD can be used.

1/8 hp is not that unusual in 3Ø, but not 120v...
Anyway. If they are truly both 3Ø motors, it wont work unless you have a method to change voltages for main motor and pump to match. Either by using two VFDs or two static phase converters outputting appropriate voltage.
Cheapest solution is get a new pump. I bet you find a suitable pump less than 100$.
 
Now that I think about it, I don't ever remember seeing a 120VAC 3Ph motor either.

I wonder if the pump motor is really single phase, but works off one leg of the 220 3Ph?
