Hello all, so I went to my local gun store today to browse and came home with a Boker pro kwaiken. It is my first VG-10 bladed knife. Any thoughts on this particular steel? I'd post pics, but haven't figured that part out yet lol. Thanks for looking

YES !
Good stuff !
I have the Boker Urban Trapper made with VG-10.

Seriously good kitchen and EDC steel.
Not magic, not "SUPER".
Way, way better than our Granddad carried.

I look forward to photos. I was looking hard at one of those when I bought the Trapper. I like the rounded, some what wide and not too tall handle / scales on the kwakien; (too tall is the modern slab sided tactical handles).

Yah . . . that is a cool knife.

Vg10 is one of my favourite steels. It is by no means the most wear resistant but is no slouch either. It is very easy to sharpen to a razor edge and it seems to want to get really really sharp. When it's dulling a few swipes on the stone from my sharpmaker and it is hairsplittin' sharp in no time. I personally haven't had any corrosion issues, but according to what I hear it is not the most stain resistant steel out there.

In my experience the steel performs simmilarly to 154cm for whatever reason. It is one of the best rounded steels out there in terms of attributes. That is what makes it one of my all time favourites.

I've got the mini kwaiken in Ti. Got it couple months ago and haven't used it a lot except to flick it! I really like it so far.
VG-10 is a high carbon stainless steel if I'm not mistaken.
I have a Kizer Bolt with it and have gotten it pretty damn sharp with my average skill on a Lansky setup.

Very stainless Japanese fine grained steel.
Assuming similar hardness of each blade steel:
Holds an edge better than 440C
Holds an edge about the same as 154CM, ATS-34
Holds an edge less well than S30V or D2

One of the few that have never liked it. Found it chippy, then again S30v is my favorite and many find it chippy. If it works for you enjoy it.

Did the chipping come from a folder or a fixed blade? I doubt it will see a lot of use, just small tasks really

Great all around steel, one of the Spyderco basic steel choices for their models, can't go wrong with it!

Gets sharp easy and quick, holds a nice edge, corrosive resistant as well

I like the balance VG10 gives me. I got dozens of super steel blades and I'm perfectly happy with it, no reservations.

Never found it chippy. I love the stuff. I have a Spyderco Centofante III that has been my go-to/EDC for nine years. I've also taken it in the ocean and fresh water with no rust issues.

I'm not sure how Boker does theirs but Spyderco knocks it out of the park.

I have been carrying a boker kwaiken with vg10 for the last year, the knife has seen a lot of daily use, lots of cardboard food, plastic, wood cutting. After use 10 passes on the strop and its shave ready, great steel for every day use. I touch it up on the wicked edge every 3 months or so and strop it every day.

I've been using VG-10 mostly on Spydercos for a few years and have come to really like it.

It's a pretty decent all around performer, sharpens easily and the edge bevel takes a nice mirror polish.

I've got no complaints about it.

I love VG-10, at least the way Spyderco does it. I don't know what or why it is, but I can get it sharper and sharp easier than any steel, using ceramics, and it keeps its edge. Steel isn't just about how long it keeps an edge through how much cardboard or manilla rope it cuts, or how big the carbides are, or blah blah frigging blabbidty blah blah blah. For a blade that I actually use, I freaking love VG-10.
