VG-10 Question

If you have trouble sharpening AUS8 or 420HC then you may require some additional media, possible a couple courser levels. The Sandvik 14c28n & 13c26n do not have carbides from my understanding, it's basically razor blade steel. That should and usually is the easiest steel to sharpen, and it can get the sharpest and most polished of the ones you mentioned. Keep in mind, not all knife steel is designed to be shaving sharp. I've encountered many steels that perform much better with a courser finish than with a fine polished edge. YMMV.

The VG10 is in direct comparison to CPM154. VG10 takes a killer edge, has decent edge retention and is easy to maintain. My Strider in CPM154 is more difficult to get hair shaving sharp than the Spydercos I have in VG10
154cm and CPm154 are not the same. VG10 is more like 154CM, than the particle metallurgy counterpart. The difficulty in sharpening the strider may be due to the heat treat on that style of knife (really fat blade compared to thinner http://kershaw.kaiusaltd.com/knives/knife/funxion-emt Spyderco uses.
