vg-10

My favorite. I would take it over almost anything else (stainless).

One great thing about Spyderco is that somehow they're using such a great steel in even their low-end knives now. When I first got my Lum Chinese Folder, it was unusual stuff.

Ok, I can see why that's misleading. I mean a knife, I like the Caly Jr. around 40.00, it's a great knife.

VG-10 stainless steel.......any good???
IMHO, one of the finest all-around knife steels around. Easier to sharpen than most of the "super steels" like S30V, but holds an edge well; and it has a natural "toothiness" that slices like the dickens.

I love it! I use it every day to cut lots of stuff, its great. I chose a Spyderco Endura because it had that steel, and I wasnt disappointed.

Is it just as good when made by Fallkniven? Does the edge have enough toughness to be considered a chopper, as in their larger knives? Thanks.

I've got a fallkniven F1 with laminated VG10 and really like it. It seems to behanve like the spydrco with VG10 (has a thicker edge though)

Love the stuff as well!! I have only Spydies, though, in VG-10. Haven't had a chance to really compare to S30V in my Paramilitary, aside from re-sharpening, but VG-10 is definitely easier to sharpen.

in Mcusta folder, they managed to have blade on VG-10 that is EXTREMELY sharp.(The Damascus blade is made of 420 steel with VG-10 cutting edge. )
Awaiting my new calypso Jr to see if it could beat it!

Don't worry about it. The VG-10 steel is one of Fällkniven's biggest assets.
And their convex edge profile lends itself to chopping.

I think it's one of the bests steels availables. Very good edge retention, almost rust proof :p and a lot easier to sharpen than the S30v.

You can't go wrong with this steel.

I like VG10 alot. I have used it in several Falkniven models. In fact, I like it as much as S30V, but not quite as much as BG42. This is really splitting hairs though. Any of the highend stainless steels perform well within their intended use. The knife I carry on my wading belt is a Siegle in S30V. It works just fine and I wouldn't trade it out for a knife in BG42 or VG10 just because of the steel type. You have to look at the total package and the Siegle has all the attributes I look for in an Alaskan fishing knife. The one I used to carry was a Falkniven S1, and it worked well. The Siegle just works a little better at cutting up large fish like salmon and halibut.

No need to worry about the VG10 in a Fallkniven convex grind. It'll do the work.

VG-10 is the stainless steel most like carbon steel that I have used. The edge tends to roll not chip and can be stropped or steeled back to good condition. It doesn't have to be honed every time to be sharpened...Ed
