Being stainless doesn't mean it won't rust. The only steel that ive never seen rust yet is LC200N, H1 and other variations that use nitrogen instead of high carbon.
In any case... It's possible that it wasn't cleaned and dried well enough. But also possible it's not vg10. It's more than likely the heat treatment. I'm not going to say it's a bad heat treatment tho. They may have chose to maximize edge retention over stainless properties. But I dunno. Maybe they just used a different piece of steel on mistake.
It's possible it's just really humid in your drawer. Do you have a humidity meter you could put next to your knife to verify?
