What I have done to Cadets in the past is file down the tip so it is flat. Just a tiny bit, you know? It allows it to go in deeper into phillip's head screws. The Can opener should do the trick as well.
Another tactic to use on phillips when you have a cadet, use the inside corner of the large screwdriver/bottle opener. This will give you similar results as the combo tool on the bantam. You hold the knife at a 45 degree angle to the screw and gently add torque.
I got that by watching an old vet with a TL-29 deal with phillips screws. Worked like a charm. Those old guys had a few tricks up their sleeves.
