vic lockblade saks

I had a Vic Hunter I was very fond of. I was pissed when I lost it because I thought it the optimal SAK for me. The bind being that I'll never get the same thing twice when something like that happens. It's a game I play. Then I found the Outrider. Fantastic, the game worked. It is now my preferred SAK by far. Ideal.

I have a OH fireman with the main blade serrations ground off, a OHT and an outrider.
I like the outriders many tools, but the black scaled ones have the liner lock that I much prefer.

as a general rule liner locks I've owned usually don't have any blade play where as lockbacks typically have a small amount. How do you all clean your saks out after getting em goobered up doing while doing something messy?

Soap, hot water, and an old toothbrush. I wipe it down with a paper towel and let it sit with a few tools open to dry. A little oil and it's good for another round. I've cleaned up a couple used ones that were pretty cruddy-- soap, water and elbow grease does it.

I got a 6" buffer from Harbor Freight Tools the other day. It cleans up an SAK in a hurry. You have to be careful and go slow on the scales, but you can buff them up real purdy.

I've had an Adventurer since '92. hellaciously useful knife that got me by a couple of errr.....unplanned camping trips.

I thought it would be perfect if It just had a saw blade, so I picked up a Trekker. It's taking me alot of getting used to. That one little implement makes the knife much bulkier and harder to live with, but I'm getting used to it, a little at a time. I've been EDCing it for a week and a half now. (along with a fixed blade)

They are like a Mora in thier humble nature, and that for the price, you can't go wrong with one.

I got the OH GAK for Xmas. I had to get the German Army version cos I love that crest of theirs... and OD is my favourite colour.

As far as the knife goes, its great. The liner lock works very well (takes two hands to disengage). The serrations are very much like the ones on their steak knives (yeah, Victorinox make the best steak knives in the business) so it makes for a superb food prep blade (extremely sharp - be warned!). However, you still have about an inch of plain edge for what have you.

The superb saw is significantly longer than on the smaller SAKs so that's great (main reason I wanted a bigger SAK).

The main screwdriver also locks in place, which is great, cos the normal ones have a tendency to fold up when you are applying force.

Also comes with the highly effective can opener and all-important Philips screwdriver so its a total winner IMO.

I have carried an Adventurer every day for about 20 years. I cracked a handle scale on one and sharpened a couple enough that I retired them. In 20 years I have never had a slide button lock fail. They often have a little blade play, but that doesn't make them insecure. On a lockback design blade play often indicates a weakness, but not on the slide button design. I like the lock better than the friction action.

ive got a OHT i have yet to try out.

it's been hard to put my Pioneer Apprentice down. i keep enough crap in my pockets in hesitant to add the bulkier OHT into the mix

I'm impressed with my recently purchased OHT. Lot of knife+ for under $30.
