vic pioneer or soldier

I don't have the knife yet.
The Cadet though, is pretty tight with it's inner workings and they may get in the way.

Thanks!
I can make a clip easily with titanium, the removing of the pins and replacing them may challenge me. How difficult is it?

Removal was very easy. Seems as if I used a small drill bit to get the head of the pin off and then just drove them out. The drilling and tapping is very easy once you have the bare slab in hand.

The part that gave me the hardest time was resetting the pins. I cut the pin stock long and peened one side over to give it a head. Then just lined it all up for reassembly and removed some of the length on the pins so that there was enough material left to peen down a nice head on the off side. You want to very evenly work the material down when peening so that you don't get the whole knife too tight. If you go slow and keep checking how each tool opens, though, you will get it to where it feels right. Worst case, you have to remove a pin and redo it. For me, it was worth it, and if you feel like tackling it I say go for it. It is not that technical.

Curious why you can't just drill and tap the aluminum slabs without taking the knife apart?

Hi SRC--I did one that way. The problem I had is that the leather punch is below one screw and a spring is below the other screw. I got the job accomplished, but the screws don't have much thread hanging in that slab. I remember that I epoxied or jb-welded them in on that one because I wasn't confident they would hold. However, I still have that knife somewhere and it has not let loose yet, so I'm not saying it can't be done.

Mudguard, if I'm hijacking too much post up and I'll tone it down.:)

I've been edcing an alox soldier lately. A sturdy knife with great snap, easy to clean and a basic compliment of tools on it. The awl works great for things you don't want to mess up your main blade with like opening packages (tape residue).

Over 3 years now with my Soldier in pocket. Carry many others to mix it up, but it seems I'm always missing something I need if I don't have the Soldier. Soldier is perfect for me. I'm sure a Pioneer is the same. I keep a rambler on the keychain for the scissors, tweezers, toothpick and the small #1 magnetized phillips is great with electronics or automotive uses. Seems the perfect combo for everyday life. I could get by with the Rambler, but I really like the Soldier. The military heritage suits me as well. More so than the Pioneer.
