Vic Soldier: The knife killer

Same here, I would have bought one in a second if it was like 70$, but 450?

I know. You would think it was a custom. it looks like it should be priced like all their others. Nothing fancy there. I don't know who's buying them, but stop it.

I wont argue with you.
My mind tells me this is the premium of slipjoints. Rediciously low price, fantastic high and trusty quality, walk and talk always more than good, always flawless. Good finish and no lemons among them. I wont go on, you know what I mean.
I have a 02 soldier I got when my first boy was born, and a electrician I got from my wife when we got married, bouth very valuable for me. For a non knifenut knifeuser there is nothing better to carry. I also have ca 10 read ones including a standard from the early 80-ties, (my first quality slipjoint besides EKA 38) my fathers safari and the climber I always carry in my go to work backpack. Midnight manager and classic on my keys.
Its not the body of the SAK that lacks me but the sole of them that get difuse for me. It takes a long time for the SAKs to get individual in my EDC rotation.
However, my current lust is for american traditional patterns and I feel very good carrying them, Cant realy say they are better than a SAK, not worse eather, only different.

If it were to come down to one knife for me, it would probably be my Victorinox Pioneer in red. Pretty much a Soldier with a lanyard ring, it offers several useful tools without compromising the ability to use the knife blade. About the only other thing I could wish for is that it had a handle made from natural materials.

That's how I feel about the Recruit, which is like the Pioneer but on a slightly smaller frame and with a pen blade instead of an awl. It has a good selection of tools without making the main blade feel too far off center. I've thought about swapping the scales out for wooden ones, which isn't too difficult, but haven't gotten around to it.

A red alox Farmer has been in my pocket for almost 2 years now. Being about to turn screws is a something I have trouble living without. Even the awl gets used "all" the time for rough stuff (scoring a line, poking a hole, etc).

Yeah, I've always been a fan of the Vic line too, got some great knives/patterns to choose from. I have several, although I haven't been carrying them much lately. No real reason, they just sort of fell out of the rotation, maybe it's time for a couple to find their way back into it.

I have a cadet that I put herringbone jigged horn handles on, turned out pretty darn nice if I do say so myself. Not all that hard to do and makes even the already friendly Cadet look that much friendlier. I'll see if I can't find or take a picture or 2.

The Soldier and Farmer are both great knives, no doubt about it. Here's my resurrected '71 issue knife.

I normally like to have a small blade also though, so I tend to carry one of these more than I carry the Soldier.

And I had this one made up for a buddy of mine:

I'm also a huge SAK fan, my edc rotation consists of a red Pioneer that I removed the lanyard ring (Dremel tool) and the Farmer.

Today while cleaning gutters I used the Pioneer (left the Farmer @ home:o) to cut a Pine bough off that was laying in the gutter.

I love their sharp blades and the ability to easily sharpen when needed:thumbup::)

I have few hard and fast rules about life but here's one I always go by: never help anybody move without a Soldier in your pocket. It's amazing how many people will ask the following questions on moving day.
"Anyone got a knife?" CHECK
"Anyone got a screwdriver?" CHECK
"Anyone got a bottle opener?" CHECK
"Can opener?" CHECK
Okay, nobody has asked me for an awl yet but I HAVE used it on moving day to punch holes in the tie downs for the truck. Soldiers and Pioneers-love 'em.

I have to say, I have finally come around on the SAK's. I used to think of them as kind of a "gimmick" knife. I had a couple, but never carried them: one that I found, and keep in my medicine cabinet exclusively to use the little scissors for miscellaneous facial hairs that need to be snipped, and one that was a gift that has been in the bottom of a drawer for about 10 years with hardly a glance.

Then a couple of months ago, I got a Wenger half-serrated single blade for next-to-nothing to get reduced shipping when I was ordering something else, and kind of liked it. So I took another look at the Wenger that had been living in the drawer for so long, and decided it was a real knife after all. Last month, I ordered an alox Farmer (two of them actually) and love it. It's been in my pocket several times since then.

I can't say that I like it more than my TL-29's or my sodbusters, but it sure is a handy little knife.

the Electrician is one of my all time faves since I have a P-38 on my keychain and I love having the extra blade.

I LOVE the Vic. Soldier.

Although, I DO keep a Vic. Farmer in the truck. (That is one of the knives I keep in there.)

are the blades really thicker in alox series...if so by how much and is it noticable for those who own both styles. I was thinking of getting a farmer or soldier

Found some Farmers on clearance a while back. You got a a Farmer and a Vic flashlight in a gift tin for $30.

Then for a while, they lowered the silver model sets to $20. Crazy deal. I stocked up.

I ground the ring tab off of one of the silver Farmers, and I'm thinking I may send it off to be modded. The only thing it's missing IMO is scissors.

It's a rock solid knife in a good size. In some ways, I think the scissors may make it a bit thick, but I'd like to see how the mod works out.

Gimme a Farmer any day, I have about 15 SAKs but I like certain things in my pocket SAK, those things bein', a saw, decent size blade, can and bottle opener, (I do use 'em) and an awl, Farmer fits the bill perfectly.

I have an old tinker that I got for christmas from my parents. Thats about 5 years old now. Now though I have a red farmer. I love it. I'm never scared to use it. Its a swiss army knives, everyone knows those are tools not weapons.

If there could be only one slipjoint made in this world and I was the communistic prolitary diktature overhead KOKO chief, I would deside that the SAK soldier should be the one. Do you agre on this one or is it going to be riots and revolution????

Edit. They will come only in reed and carbon blades. Every citicen vill be issued one and it will be criminalised to not carry it.
