Seems like the oht's have developed quite a following ...Been looking a bit at them I'm not a big fan of the serrated tip... Does anyone find that it gets in the way during food prep or game cleaning....also how's the lock does it lock up tight??? any play??

I am not a fan of serrated blades, but the OHTs blade doesn't bother me much. I don't use it for hunting, as I have the Vic Hunter lockblade that I've used for game chores.

With a plain edged knife, I am more inclined to use the back of the edge to unzip the animal anyway and the tip for the finer cutting chores. I gotta say though, I don't believe that the shallow serrations on the OHT will hurt your ability to perform your game field duties. You might want to go slow till you get the feel down.

BTW, I'm slowly sharpening the serrations out of my blade, as well as putting a second bevel on the edge.

I preffer the standard trekker, not the oht, First I don't like serrations, though as others have said vic's serrations pattern works pretty well. But the main thing I don't like is the pronounced hump of the oht when using the saw etc.

Lock up on all of my 111mm vics is solid, but they do tend to have a bit of forward play, from what I've seen.

Serrations turn me off, so when I wanted a big, locking SAK, I went with the Outrider. It is not one-handed opening (no big deal for me) but it does have a scissors among its tools (big deal for me).

I like the serrations. I live in the middle of an urban area and use my OH for a lot of EDC stuff. Cutting cardboard or cutting a steak I love the serrations just where they are.

+1
Exact same reasons for me

I've been looking at the Wenger Ranger line. There's some nice looking OHTs there.

My OHT has a bit play, which is unusual for a SAK, but I think it is common for OHT.

I would say, go get the OHT and see if you will love the serration, and if you don't, it could be removed quite easily.

The serrations turned me off too but about a year ago i bought a OH Trekker anyway. Great knife! It does lock up pretty solid but there is a little bit of up down play but no side to side play. Most liner locks i've seen seem to have some up down play so thats probably normal.
I lived with the serrations for about a month, they were actually kinda useful. But i do like using the tip area for fine cutting and carving so finally the serrations just had to go.

The Outrider 's a great knife it has two things that i miss on the OH Trekker, the scissors and the corkscrew. I might have to buy an Outrider unless Vic decides to make a OH Trekker with the same tools (fingers crossed!).

I will be buying a Wenger OH Ranger soon, unfortunately they don't have a model with the same tools as the Outrider or the OH Trekker. They do have a four layer with a saw but no scissors or corkscrew.
I'll probably go with the semi-minimalist Ranger 61 (two layer) as i will be using it for camping along with a multitool which already has scissors/saw etc.

I use my OHT when I can get it back from my wife. She loves it. I kind of got used to the shallow serrations on it. Yes sharpening can be be a PITA, but can still do everything like a plain blade. I think that the serrations last a little longer than the plain part on the blade.
If you can just wait for wenger to come out with something similiar, but with a plain blade.

I've only owned a couple of Wengers years ago and their quality just wasn't up to par with Victorinox, so I havn't looked at them in years. But now that Vic has acquired Wenger, maybe that's all changed. Think I'll check them out and see what's up with their OH knives.

1. Swissbianco has preorders for a limited run of OHT with a plain edge, corkscrew and Stay Glow scales (price is $65 for numbers 0 to 100, $55 for numbers 101+, plus shipping, I suspect that most numbers under 100 are gone, Tolly will probably post a picture as soon as he sees this thread). Contact him for more information.

2. Victorinox has changed the OHT slightly for details see the SOSAK forum on knifeforums.

3. The OH Fireman has a corkscrew but no scissors.
