Victorinox (and other Swiss Army) Folders.

I've been carrying a sac farmer as a backup.I found all the tools on that model to be excellent and have used them often.Even the leather punch is great and makes for a fantastic fire steel tool.

I've had my Huntsman since the late 70's and the only issue was a broken spring on the scissors. I broke the tip on the small pen blade and lost the toothpick. It was a simple matter to replace the spring and toothpick and grind a new tip on the blade. Compared to the D2 in my Queen stockman the blade does not retain the edge very well but it is easy to sharpen. I'd say the edge retention is not as good as the carbon and stainless Moras I own or my old 61OT. More in line with my older Russel Green River knives. It might be that the newer SAKs have a better steel or better heat treat therefore giving a better edge. That being said, my Huntsman is my edc. I carry one of those credit card sharpeners with me and use it as necessary.

Swiss Army Knives are fantastic for EDC... I feel strangely uncomfortable without carrying a SAK. I like to have a slip-joint in my LFP and some kind of one-hander clipped to my RFP. I like to rotate my one-handers frequently but I find it's the Vic Tinker in my LFP more often than not. It's kind of irritating because I have other slippies that I'd like to carry as well. If I didn't have a Vic Rambler on my keychain, I'd probably stick with the Tinker all the time--so darn useful! :o

As much as I love my SAKs, I'm not big on the thick & bulky 'super-stackers.' Past three stacks, and I'd just rather carry a multi-tool.

Sak's are great edc's and I have carried one just about everyday since getting one for Christmas 8 or 10 years ago.

Out of curiosity, what are you actually using it for (or expect to)? The "parcel carrier" is probably the most universally recognized as the most useless SAK tool.

I do some work with electronics and soldering and I think it might be useful for getting wires out of areas my fingers can't reach, as well as anything else my fingers can't get into like small cracks between metal frames and whatnot.

Victorinox makes an amazing knife for the price. I've EDC'd one now for over 40 years. The steel is softer and very stain resistant, plus easy to clean with those mirror finished tools. The blades take a very keen edge but do not hold it all that well.

I also now carry a one-handed locking folder alongside my SAK. My locking folders have pointier tips, better edgeholding, and a lock. Most of them are also longer than the main blade on a Tinker. All of these differences increase the practical utility for me, but the SAK is still the one I'd carry if I only could carry one knife. I use the other tools a lot, and attribute my lack of broken blade tips to the fact that I have always had the screwdriver/bottle opener to pry with since I was a boy.
