Victorinox Electrician

thanks nirrebosse...that's what i was picturing, like a pull cut toward the body with the knife in the right hand, using the right thumb to guide the wire. we're on the same page, i believe? you convexed that blade on your electrician, huh (i assume only on the regular sheepsfoot portion)? sounds pretty nice! not sure i totally follow your comment on it not being a whittlers blade though...do you mean by design or since you modded it?

Beestokk. We think sameways about how ro cut wire. Im not an electican so for me a convex edge is stronger and more versatile. Its convex all the way. It happens as I have sharpened it at free hand stones and I use the stone on the flat side mostly just mowing the wire edge of the secondary bevel side and I also strop. On the curved edge I use a cheramic dogbone. I dont bother with having that part shaving sharp though, hanging to a nail is good enough for that part.
About wittling it was just a frase and I just mean that I dont think that the edge on that blade for me has to be perfekt as I use it abusive all the time and dull it. A true whittling knife for me has near to a perfekt edge and I care for it to stay that way.

This is one of the Vic patterns, I'm pretty sure I'll own. I like the Alox knives a lot. They are very practical and inexpensive. Easy to own and easy to maintain.

I have accumulated about 10 alox Soldiers & Pioneers but I now find that I'm carrying my Electrician the most. The sheepsfoot blade is about 100X more useful than the can opener.

Hooray for bringing back a 6 year old thread:)

Just for the record I do really like the electrician, in fact here is a picture of mine that went with me earlier to the wild jungles of the grocery store!

I like the Electrician but I usually use the alox Soldier instead. I like the can opener because it is also a small flat head screwdriver and a Phillips head screwdriver. And the main blade is sufficient. ...now if we could swap out the awl for an electrician blade or a sheepfoot blade that would be great! I rarely need an awl.

I just bought one for my son who has just started his electrical apprenticeship. It is very nice.
My son traded my his Victorinox Electrician for my SWIZA D04. I didn't want to do it, but he's my son. He's much happier with the SWIZA tools (spear point main blade, cap lifter/large screw driver, can opener/small screw driver, philips screw driver, awl with needle hole, and tweezers).

Now I have to buy myself another SWIZA D04 and figure out what to do with the Vic Electrician.

I bought a Swiza as soon as they became available but I still prefer the Electrician.

I bought a few Alox SAKs until I stumbled upon the Victorinox Electrician Plus. The PERFECT combo in my opinion. It adds a saw blade and the pruning blade is incredibly useful after a bit of reprofiling to get nice acute edge on it.

I have a few different electricians, but my go to alox is the pioneer/soldier. The SD tip on the can opener has saved the day more times then I can remember.
But back to the electricians. (Also happens to be my trade)

Last one was a +B run of Swiss chocolate brown. I usually hesitate to view the +B website because of their prices but I had to bite the bullet on this color.
