Victorinox Farmer for pocket carry...

3 layer SAKs are too bulky for my taste for pocket carry. This forces me to carry a tool like that either in my day pack or on my belt with a clip on holster. But once I make that move, I just go straight for a full sized multi-tool.

In the backcountry, if I think I'll need a saw, I'll carry either an Opinel (lighter) or Silky (much better but heavier) folding saw.

I have a Farmer and it is comfortable for me in a front jeans pocket if suspended with a pocket clip or lanyard tucked under my belt to keep it verticle in the pocket.

I do find it too thick for dress pants.

I find I use the saw and the leather punch quite often ... and I'm not big on carrying anything loose in my pockets ... not even change ... but the Alox Farmer never bothers me carrying it ...

I guess it's useful enough it wasn't hard to get used to.

If I lived somewhere I tromped around the woods frequently, I would carry the three layer Farmer. But I don't. So, for me the saw is only used when I'm in the woods and I won't carry a three layer sak as an edc. You may feel differently about a three layer sak, but I know from experience, I won't put it in my pocket day to day because of the size of the lump. It is a great knife and very popular however.

If your use is mostly when you're hiking, consider going to the One Handed Trekker which has a larger saw blade or better yet, a two layer SAK and a folding saw. It all depends on what you normally do either hiking or day to day. You might not even need the saw hiking on any kind of regular basis. I don't. I generally carry my own hiking poles these days and rarely cut my own in the woods any more.

Added: The only way to know if YOU would be comfortable carrying it every day is to buy it and see how you feel about it.

I'm not sure of the size difference but I carry a Alox Pioneer often. I'm in regular cut blue jeans or Dickies work jeans and I don't even know its there.

I carry my farmer sometimes with a smaller knife. I hang the lanyard out my pocket, very easy to access.

Thank you for all the helpful replies. I specifically want a Farmer because I like the Soldier and I really like the SAK saw blade which is what I mostly need when Im cutting walking sticks and catapults out in the bush. I think I need to go to town a have a better look at a Farmer and try it out in my jeans pocket.

Sounds like a good plan. You really need to put one in your pocket to see if the three layer configuration is something you would like for edc. You might need to carry it for a few days to really decide. Not the end of the world in terms whether you do or don't edc it. It will always be good to own it and have it available. I take the One Handed Trekker hiking in my carry bag, but not on my person. Around the house, I have plenty of saws and so forth for cutting stuff.

The Farmer is great with a suspension pocket clip. Without, it turns sideways in the bottom of my front pocket; no bueno. I got a handful of suspension clips on the bay for a couple of bucks, which is an appropriate price.

A lot of folk carry the SAK Farmer in their pocket with no issues.
I carry a Huntsman (which I believe may be longer and wider than a Farmer) in my right front pocket, and don't notice it or the 4" plus closed Stockman and whatever other knife is sharing that pocket space.
I still Pat my pocket to make sure one (or more) did not go AWOL on me.
