Hi all-

I was looking around some of the usual sites, and came across a Vic. knife that I've not seen before. It's got a standard folding blade, but it's also got a saw blade with a can opener at the end. the back has a corkscrew and awl (I think). They are selling them used here:

I was just wondering if anyone has seen this model before? Looks like a handy woods companion.

(Oh, not affiliated with Sportsmans Guide, etc...)

Yup, I have one and it's been an excellent knife. Not a locking blade, but HD everything and it snaps solidly into possition. The saw is a good performer if sharp.

SpookyP, I forgot to mention -- if you read through those threads, you'll note that a number of folks (including me) got their GAKs from Sportsmans Guide. I bought two and they were both mint; someone on the Multitools forum bought four and only got one that was mint.

So, YMMV -- but if you've never bought from Sportsmans Guide, their customer service is top notch and I would think they'd accept a return on a used item if it was totally unacceptable (check with them, though, if you do buy). :D

The German surplus knives are great bus for the money. I haven't bought any from SG, but I do own three of them. Mine all came out to about the same price per (~$10 each).

There are quite a few makers floating around. Not all of them are made by Victorinox, but they are all German contract knives, and they are all top quality. I have an Aitor (Spanish company) and Vics, and they are equal quality.

Some of them saw hard use. You may see wear and tear on the blades, especially near the tip. I hasve one like that, and its still functional.

Thanks a lot for the replies, folks. They do look handy, I'll have to keep them in mind...

I also found (and recognized from an old thread) the German Rucksacks made of canvas with the waterproof bottom:

These things were six bucks at cheaperthandirt, but I'm thinking it would probably still be worth $10. I have been looking for a slightly larger (but cheap) day pack, and I really like the looks of this one. I'll have to see what the search function yields.

Those packs are dang good deal. I love mine. I paid $14 delivered from Brigade for mine. Often times, CTD makes the savings back from their (sometimes) excessive S&H charges:( If you are buying other stuff from the guide, I would say throw one in. I have seen them sell for as much as $30 at local army-navy and small sporting goods chains (Sunny's comes to mind).

Tough as nails. Good space.

I have actually been looking at these, and they are sold out at both cheaperthandirt and the sportsman's guide. I will try brigade QM next. Sad!

I read through the old reviews on here and they were overwhelmingly positive. I'd like to get one, but it'd probably end up being that $30 you mentioned when I find one.
