I bought my first SAK on ebay and it's on the way to me.But after I bought it I thought about the metal saw/file it has.Is it really useful against actual metal? Does it wear off quickly after some use? I know i won't use it as a nail file.Has anyone got some knowledge or experience about the metal saw/file?

No extensive experience with it, but I have used the metal saw to cut a variety of materials, including plumbing pipe and other metals, and the file to knock down sharp edges on all sorts of things. After many years everything still looks like new, nothing worn out as a result of this casual use. How it would hold up under regular use, I couldn't say.

The file works well on steel and soft metals, but won't work on hardened metal like drywall screws, some stainless, etc...Those will dull it just like they would any file. The saw edge works too, but it is about twice the width of a regular hacksaw so it's also twice as slow and twice the work to cut through something with. But if it's the only metal cutting tool you have...it's much better than nothing

I find the metal saw/file handy with broken screws where you need to file off a rough spot left or cutting a screw off when its too long or such as that.

I asked for the metal saw/file if it will become dull after 2-3 uses.In smartknives.com they say ''If you use the metal saw or metal file frequently, this is probably the first tool that will become dull on your Swiss Army knife, and it can't easily be sharpened.''I won't use it regularly. And if it's strong for the jobs that you did it's good for me.Thanks
